Victor

After reading a good portion of this book Victor stands out to me as a very interesting character. He had a very good childhood but some of the things that he went through can be uncanny and plays a role into the charaterization of who he is. The story of his mother is very interesting because she had more of a maternal connection with his sister than him. As a child growing up watching your mother love and care for someone, until they die is can change how a person feels about themselves and the people around them. After understanding what he went through, watching his mother give her life in care of his sister makes Victor wanted someone to look out and care for him in the same way. So I fully understand his passion and desire to find someone who can devote themselves over to him with nothing in return, much like a mothers love. It could be possible that Victor is trying to fill a void left behind by his mother, and he wants that maternal love from someone. Even in reading the letters that Victor wrote to his sister it is clear that he desires something that he cannot find in his father or sister. His thirst for knowledge and someone to care about him can almost be directly related to his mother not giving him as much attention as his sister. Victor’s personality is very strange to say the least, but i do strongly believe that he is plagued by the actions of his mother

I agree with you, its seems as if his mother paid more attention to Elizabeth than him. Watching his mother care for her leads him to wanting to care for someone else. Its depressing to see a young child not having attention from his birth mother, and what i realize if that she gave birth to a second son in chapter 2, i guess she didn’t care for him either. I strongly believe that he created the monster because he wanted to know the physical secrets of the world, such as having the “Thirst for Knowledge” and someone to care about.

I agree with everything that you said. After his mother brought Elizabeth to their home I felt like she was taking care of Elizabeth more than Victor so he was a little bit jealous even if he did not admit it in the book. He created Frankenstein so he can prove everyone that he is somebody and also was looking for a companion for himself.
