The Castle of Otranto is a unique read. Considering that this is the first of its time being a Gothic piece setting a standard for future Gothic pieces. Interestingly enough an inference which can be drawn from the whole story is how all of these Gothic conventions or even some horror movie tropes are seen in this story being the first of its kind it had been written to basically set the standard to all of these Gothic conventions which we will be able to see in future reads in the class. ‎Horace Walpole himself  had a different type of approach than most authors of the era when it came to help move the story along in its pace a lot of things seemed to be forced or thrown in to help move things along a bit quicker.  This can be perfectly seen when Fredric escapes in the tunnel which was very conveniently found for him and Isabel as well. All in all this piece wasn’t necessarily a difficult piece as much as it was a more interesting piece for me to step out of my comfort zone to have read a type of book like this which was completely outside of my comfort zone and one which I would have never read of my own free will, but this had been for the better seeing as it was the first ever Gothic piece of time which will help us all establish a base for the whole Gothic literature course.
