Micro-Activity #3: Brainstorming Discourse Communities

I am a part of three discourse communities. One of them that has some issues is my work community. I work at GameStop and often times my co- workers and I prioritize the customer and try to give them the best possible options for their gaming needs. The issue is that our managers want us to keep everything in the company but due to the pandemic we often don’t have many of the items that they need. We are told to tell customers that we can order their items for them, but most customers are looking to get their hands on the items now and waiting for 4-7 business days feels like forever. Another issue that we often encounter is scheduling. As a tech store it is important that their are two employees in the store at all times, so that we can keep an eye on the store. Often the schedule comes out and there’s only one person scheduled for a specific day and then there is a panic to find another person to come in. This process is hard because the company itself is shutting down many stores and it’s hard to find people In our district to come In to work at our store. Although we have these problems sometimes we often try to make work a fun and enjoyable experience. At the end of the day we always figure out how to make it work. We rely heavily on each other to help the store run and we will continue to improve until we get it right.

I’m wondering if this will give you enough material for the assignment. I’m not saying it won’t, I’m just not sure. I also wonder if the DC can be expanded. You job is of a particular kind–perhaps the DC is that of those employed as sales people. Again, I don’t know, but I wonder if this broadening of the DC will help you think of more problems. But then again, maybe a tech store is very different. These are just things to consider.
