Week 11: Monday, 11/2 – Friday, 11/6

By end-of-day Monday, 11/2

READING:

  • Review your Unit 2: Annotated Bibliography, and think about the issue you have been researching. Pay special attention to the concluding section of your bibliography as you will be expanding on this section for today’s writing assignment.
  • Read the sample multimodal text: Chelsea Harrison, “College Students and Social Media.”
  • Read Announcement about Unit 2 grades and Midterm grades

WRITING:

Quick Comments

  • Go to my Discussion Question on Chelsea Harrison, “College Students and Social Media” and freewrite a short response to  “College Students and Social Media.” What makes this a multimodal document? While this particular piece may be very different from anything you may produce, how does it help you think about the Unit 3: Multimodal Project? (approx. 100 words)

Micro-Activity #17: Choosing a Discourse Community

  • Write a post in which you respond to the following:
    • Write a paragraph further reflecting and expanding on what you said in the conclusion to your Annotated Bibliography. Which discourse community do you think would benefit from your research? How much do they know about the subject? What assumptions, expectations, and/or concerns might they have? Why and how would this discourse community benefit from this information? What would be the best method/genre/media for reaching your community and why? (approx. 200 words)
  • Before publishing your post, make sure you do the following:
    • Title it “Micro-Activity #17: Choosing a Discourse Community” (note that the numbering of posts is off because of adjustments I made)
    • Pick the category “Week 11 Work”
By end-of-day Wednesday, 11/4

READING:

  • Review your research and feel free to do further research as you start to draft Unit 3: Multimodal Project (be sure to document all sources as you go).

WRITING:

Micro-Activity #18: Choosing a Mode

  • Write a post in which you do the following:
    • Explain the genre you selected for presenting your information and why you feel this genre is appropriate and effective. What do you hope to accomplish with your piece (persuade, inform, agitate, galvanize, something else)? (approx. 100 words)
    • What are the elements and features of this genre? Some things to consider are the typical length, tone, and format. Also, think about how this genre is organized and how an audience typically responds. Make a list of at least five elements and features and describe each in a few sentences.
    • Explain how you will go about composing your piece. For example: What technologies will you use? What information will you include in your final product? How will you organize it?
  • Before publishing your post, make sure you do the following:
    • Title it “Micro-Activity #18: Choosing a Mode”
    • Pick the category “Week 11 Work”
