The model I am going to pick is the letter written by Mary Wollstonecraft. the reason I’m picking this model to organize my ideas is because I find it more interesting even though its shorter, then Fredrick Douglas speech. I feel like the comparisons she uses about how important women are to society are very captivating. Another reason I really like this model is because she is able to show and reflect on people the difference between manners and morale’s . Finally I picked this model because I feel like Wollstonecraft’s argumentative style provides a concise and straight to the point about here objective in the piece.
The five key elements of a letter that i feel like are important are addressing the main problem with a stern opening line. the next element the letter presents is strong details for every main idea. The next thing Wollstonecraft does well in the letter is she addresses the reader directly and she addresses the person directly with the details. Another element that should be presented in a letter is comparing your ideas to others and delivering your point by showing how helpful and important your point is. finally the last element that makes this letter important is a captivating conclusion that brings home the point
The audience I am targeting is anyone who is interested in learning about women’s right or why its so important to have women’s rights . I feel like I bring a different perspective to women’s right since I am a man people reading this might think I don’t know as much. which is why my opinion is perfect I can show how much women are needed just for us men to grow.
in summary I would start out my paper by breaking down Wollenstonecrafts most important quotes and explaining them to the audience and how there relevant to her point. then i would explain how she breaks down her arguments to the person she is writing to . finally i would try to empathize with the reader on why women do need there rights from a mans perspective.
As I said to another student, I think you misunderstood the assignment. You are using Wollstonecraft as a model if you are writing a letter–therefore you will use her strategies and techniques to inspire you. But you are may or may not be writing about women’s issues. You are writing about the issue important to one of your discourse communities which you identified earlier this semester.
Even if you are writing about something that affects women, you are writing about something that is different than what she writes about and to a different audience. This assignment was to get you thinking about how you would write to that audience. See Vanessa and Maiya, the two posts earlier than yours for examples of what you should be thinking about as you prepare to write. And come to office hours if you are unclear about the assignment.
