Mary Wollstonecraft is writing this letter to show people at the time that women deserve there rights and how essential they are to society . I think she wants the recipient of the letter to understand her point but also realize that everyone fights for there right not just men or black people but women as well. The dc that i believe Wollstonecraft is apart of is the community that fights for women rights or even at the time just women in general. The recipient of this letter seems to be outside of this group because she is showing an argumentative side to the reader explaining why this is important
quote 1.
If woman isn’t fitted by education to become man’s companion, she will stop the progress of knowledge. the writing style she is using is argumentative here she is showing the recipient without the education of women your crippling society and every generation after it that is why i find this quote so effective
quote 2
If you are going to exclude women, without consulting
them, from sharing in the natural rights of mankind, then
defend yourself against accusations of injustice and inconsistency by proving that women don’t have reason. If you don’t
do that, then this flaw in your New Constitution—the first constitution based on reason. with this quote i also feel like Mary is using an argumentative style but she uses it in more of a clever state she uses the constitution against the recipient . This quote is very effective to me because she is showing people that if you believe in the founding principles of what this country was founded on then there literally is no backing or reason on why you wouldn’t support women’s rights.
Good point when you say: “This quote is very effective to me because she is showing people that if you believe in the founding principles of what this country was founded on then there literally is no backing or reason on why you wouldn’t support women’s rights. ”
This is the same thing Douglass does.
