NYCFC Community:
NYCFC is a soccer team that plays in the MLS and they have been a team for 9 years and they have yet to receive their own stadium to play their home games in. Their āhome stadiumā is yankee stadium but that is shared with the yankees and there is often a lot of scheduling conflicts. The people who are involved is the community/fans, the NY government(mayor, governor, and city officials) and the owner of the NYCFC soccer club which is split by City Football Club (80%) and Yankee Global Enterprises(20%). The city football club owns a bunch of different other famous soccer teams like Manchester city and NYCFC doesn’t make as much money as their other teams so it doesn’t make them on top of the list of priority. The Yankee Global Enterprises is like an anchor in this problem. Since they own 20% of the team, they have been negotiating for a stadium location right next to yankee stadium that replaces some parking complexes that is owned by the yankee global enterprises. Since City Football Club is owned by billionaires, the Yankees are trying to get as much money as possible for those parking complexes. Another thing that contributes to this problem is that soccer is not really that popular in America and in NY for that matter. The government does not see as soccer a main attraction for tourist or money in general so they are focusing on developing housing or retail space for any land they can find. But as of recently, the new mayor of NYC Eric Adams has promised to finalize a plan for NYCFC to get their own stadium, and I am pretty sure that has to do with their recent championship they won.
People who need to hear about this is everyone who is involved, also NY residents. New Yorkers are a lot about pride, and as is with any NY sports team, New Yorkers would like to get behind them, we saw that with the knicks and the “bing bong” movement. I believe a lot of New Yorkers dont even know NYC has their own soccer team so if more people know about it and this gets more attention, it will show the government how much money building a stadium for NYCFC would bring with merch sales and ticket sales as well. By simply saying that as new yorkers we should stand behind our one and only soccer team, I feel like it can persuade people to care about this issue.
You seem to be on the right track! This is a specific discourse community and problem. I think the thing to think more about is who you will make aware of the problem.
