The discourse community I chose to write about are fans of baseball. There are a few big issues happening in the game of baseball, and to make it easy, I’m going to narrow it down to the MLB, the American major league of baseball. A major problem within the game is the fact that the fanbase is diminishing quickly. Baseball has had a rough time attracting new fans, and so the fan age demographics look very old. This is a big issue because fans obviously pay to watch their favorite teams, pay for merch, TV subscriptions, etc. If there are no new fans, the longevity of the league is compromised. This is bad from a business standpoint, and for fans who want to continue to see their favorite game being played. Another big issue is the current MLB lockout which is seeing the Player’s go on strike for not having their demands met by the League. These demands include fairer pay, several rule changes that benefit player health, and the overall lessening of power of the league and it’s billionaire owners. The League isn’t giving in, though, and it’s seeing the entire season be postponed until the two sides work to an agreement. Several months of negotiations haven’t led to any type of resolution.
