The topic that I have chosen to write about is how people of our society, including the government, look down, underestimate, and degrade people with autism. I want to speak about how negatively impacted autistic people are by our society. I chose to write about this topic because I have seen how people look at those who have autism. Kids and adults with autism are looked down on, which inhibits them from attending programs, certain facilities, and certain jobs. Once others have seen the body movements that autistic people use to process outside stimuli, they would get annoyed or disgusted. I have even seen this experience firsthand. My brother would usually get kicked out of places or he would be denied certain opportunities because of his “disability.”
The questions I have are:
- Are people with autism denied access to certain opportunities?
- Does the government provide enough safe and secure resources and facilities for people with autism?
- Is the government doing enough to understand, provide, and protect people with autism?
Princess, we already talked during office hours, so I won’t repeat our conversation here. Just reach out via email if you have more questions.
