The glossary assignment is a great way to improve your vocabulary and understand what the author is trying to show us. Searching for the meaning and typing it down is a great way to show improvement academically. After knowing the meaning of the word and going back to the article to read the same paragraph is a great way to understand the details the author is trying to give to the audience. Some of the words that I have searched can have different meaning, depending on how the author or the reading interprets it. Using this method in other classes can improve your English and grades. This method helped me learn more English as English is my second language. This assignment helped me reach to my full potential on knowing the meanings of the words and  its a great opportunity for other students to learn this way if they want to improve.

When I first started this glossary entry long term project, I wasnt’s sure on how it would go. Over time like around the 2 week mark, I started seeing words other students made pop up in my school email when I checked it. When I saw some of the words from other students that looked unfamiliar, I would click on the email and read what the word means and the description that was written by the student. I feel this was a good way of expanding my vocabulary on a weekly basis since this was a project that was due every week. If I didn’t understand what a word meant, I would make note of it and do my weekly entry on it sometime later. Some of the words I did had multiple meanings like “Bear” and “Concealed”. It made me be more aware if other words had more than one meaning. I look at he context of how the word is used like for the word “bear”. The animal bear didn’t make sense in the context of how it was used in the sentence, so I knew it had to have another meaning. I think this way of thinking could greately expand my vocabulary and learn more about sentence structure. So I feel that this was a useful learning experience and I am appreciative that I had the opportunity to do this in my freshman year of college.

After I done this twelve word, I reflected back I feel like I learn a lot of thing, this my first time doing this kind of work, it really helpul, it help me to understand each word how to use it on the sentence from the test or article, first you read the test word by word and then  to find out which word I really don’t know after that I read the whole sentence from the word I don’t understand again and again, after I still don’t get the word , I will considered this is my word of the week, then I got to William-Webster to search the meaning of the word, and then read it, after I get the meaning I will try to use it on the sentence that I didn’t understand, spent a little bit of time from me and figure the meaning of the word in this sentence, after I really don’t know what it meaning I will go to William-Webster again and read it again, after the second tried, I always  will get the idea what the word of the week mean. This homework help me to improve my english vocabulary, I really learn a lot of vocabulary, not only on this 12 vocabulary, far more than that. I will try to keep use this method of learning to improve my vocabulary, so I can know more vocabulary than before. Also I always go to see my classmate vocabulary and then see there vocabulary word , then learn it from them, which is really helpful.

The main objective of the glossary assignments was to come across words that I was unfamiliar with while reading articles and stories in class or at home. After finding these new words, I would label them as a noun, verb, or adjective. Next I would put the definition and explain what I first thought the word meant. Finally, I would describe how the word is being used and explain how it connects within the bases of the story. I think this assignment was very helpful because it made my understanding of the reading flow more progressively and clearly. For example, it allowed me to break down the sentences and understand what the author was actually trying to convey to me as the reader. Also, with learning new words it built and enhanced my vocabulary as a whole because I found more complex words to use instead of basic ones. For instance, the simpler words are more specific and straight forward while the complex words can be used to describe different things or have a deeper meaning. In addition, these complex words helped me with my pronunciation and also finding out where they originated from. It affected my coordination and communication with my classmates because we would help each other figure out what the word means. Meaning, if one person knew what the word meant, they could explain what it is and how it’s used in the text.

Through the semester I think the glossary assignment was a great technique to improve my reading and to understand more the articles, also learning words I didn’t know their meanings. By doing these glossary assignments it was a helpful way to write my essays, not only in the writing part but also, in the point it came to explain myself for the quotations. However, as a classmate it made us see each other point of view and different opinion based on our readings. The experience of working in groups was a great experience and a special moment because it made us more comfortable with each other and to know us more, talk about our ideas, how to organize as a group to do our part of the project. This project made us get the best out of our understanding and what we have learned through the semester.

my interpretation

well, I finally got all the words that messed me up but most importantly I learned a lot new things specially when it comes to viewing the English languish. what I can tell from viewing all this words I gain a since that they all have old english roots which of course makes it hard for all of us to read. Knowing such words have caused me to ask their origin form where they come from and how different it is to use them today. like I mention before we don’t hear or see this words that much anymore and even if we did it will make us question what is wrong with the person who said it in a casual conversation. This experience was amazing since it made me go back to words that I put them to the side and ignore that made me feel less anxious when it came to english since it is my second langue after all but I feel that it doesn’t really mater since we are all here to learn and English is really complex with all the Shakespeare it has in it. with all to an end knowing this words really improve my English.

The glossary assignment for this semester included finding words within various readings given in class or assigned and looking up the definition of it when we were unsure. Each glossary word I encountered were words I had no idea of the meaning within the context being given. The assignment comprised of finding its actual definition and explaining why we understand the word more clearly after finding its definition. This means including the date, the title of the article/story including author and page or quote of the given word. The assignment affected my reading process. When I was reading the articles originally, I would stumble upon words that were confusing to me and in a way I would circle them or skip over it and proceed to finish the reading. However, with this assignment I would find myself scanning the readings for those same words I circled and rereading the same word twice or even more than twice. I would refer back to the text when doing this assignment to understand the definition clearer. It also affected my comprehension because I would realize there are many words I start to see as I am reading that does not sound familiar to me. There were many cases I found certain words such as “Taciturn” or “Stoicism” that it was my first time hearing of the word. It furthered my comprehension in a way because I started using the same words I have used from glossary assignments into my own essays or homework assignments. The glossary assignment has also affected my coordination with classmates for this crowd-sourced project because certain of my classmates knew the words that I had not. When we would share words we found in readings, I realized there were a lot of cases where classmates knew the word and it was my first time finding out that word’s definition. There was also cases in which both my classmate and I had no idea about certain words in readings. We would look up the words in class discussions and talk about it together to understand the meaning more in depth. This glossary assignment has taught me to always take my time to think twice when reading. Even when I think I may have an idea of what the word means, the definition may be completely different. Also, every word is used in a different context for readings so you have to take time to understand what meaning is used for what context. These glossary assignments allowed me to gain a better understanding of unfamiliar words and adding to my vocabulary.
