The eClass Folder is a spreadsheet (available in template form as an Excel file) in which faculty must record all course records, including attendance, grades, the weight and components of all grade calculations, and identifying course information. It is an official college document that, once submitted, becomes a part of the official college records.
You can find a blank copy of the template here. You can also find templates and instructions at the Faculty Commons Resources page. Scroll down to see an annotated sample folder.
All eClass Folders are due to the English Department at the end of each semester or session, generally within several days of the deadline for final grade submissions. (You will get an email reminder with the current due date each semester.) Submission of the eClass folder is part of your contractual obligation to the university.
A few hints/reminders:
Please enter all information neatly, in the proper place, according to the instructions.
Note that you must indicate your grading policy for the course in the lower left corner of the document.
The department must be able to determine exactly how you arrived at the grade for each student from the folder alone, in the event you are unavailable.
Remember to initial and date the bottom of the folder in the boxes that correspond to the session number on the top.
Some professors choose to record attendance/participation directly into their folders throughout the semester. You also have the option to take attendance using Blackboard and to attach the downloaded records later.
You can also record grades in Blackboard, then download and paste them into the eClass Folder at the end of the semester. (Presumably we will have the same capability when CUNY migrates from Blackboard to BrightSpace as its official LMS.)
Some people choose to print out their folders at the start of the semester and keep records manually.
The City Tech CIS Department offers live training sessions in Excel 365 for anyone interested. You can find more information here.
