There are two calendars:
You can access these from the CityTech Home page by clicking on Academics
- The Academic Calendar with important dates like withdrawal deadlines and closures.
- The Class Meetings Grid which has the term laid out on a typical calendar template. It notes when the school is closed and when the various conversation days are scheduled. In terms of creating your syllabus, this calendar is the most important.
Class Grid:
- CUNY requires that classes meet specified numbers of times depending on the hourly credit the course carries. Classes meeting twice a week must meet 30 times during the term. Classes meeting once a week must meet 15 times during the term. This often means the last class meetings are during Final Exam week.
- Conversion days are scheduled to replace days when the campus is closed because of various holidays and observances. It is critically important to pay attention to the Grid to see when your classes are canceled and when they are being rescheduled, especially as you’re building your syllabus.
- To be honest, it can be very confusing. For example, in the Fall, classes early in the term often meet for one week/day and then not again until a week or more later. Those ‘missed’ days are added by having a class that meets on Monday and Wednesday, for example, also meet on a Tuesday at some point in the term.
Academic Calendar:
The administration sends out notices to your email about upcoming deadlines for things like withdrawals that you’ll want to alert your students about. But it’s a good idea to check the Academic Calendar periodically to be sure.
