For today’s in-class writing assignment, write a memo that makes a recommendation to read or not to read the article that you read before today’s class. Address it to an imaginary co-worker with your same level of knowledge and expertise. Weave together your argument (for or against) with a brief summary of the article’s content. Your memo’s content should be 50-100 words (excluding the memo header and the magazine article reference at the end of the memo). When you are done, post your memo as a comment made to this blog post.

    I suggest you read Caitlin Dover’s Backward and Forward article, which speaks about how nostalgia is being used to influence people into making decisions and feeling emotions. Diving deep into the 80’s and early 90’s to get inspiration for the next few pieces would not be a bad idea, especially if we keep our brand guidelines in tact. Taking advantage of current events is what art does really well, and we should focus on that. Art is being influenced by the current situation in our country, and if we want to stay current, we need to get on the bandwagon.

    Hi Sal,

    I saw this article in the last issue of the Popular Photography magazine, about the tin-type printing. Isn’t it crazy that people are trying to use a century old technique in this digital age? Not at all, the photographs came out gorgeous. I want to recommend you to read that article “Tin Works” by Theano Niktas. The author is a commercial photographer for 2 decades. Before, he shot digital only like us. By some reason, he move back and develope these tin-type prints, what people used to do in the Civil War. Of course they looks like old, moody and very classical looking. He use 8×10 large format camera to make these prints. He had explained all about these step by step in the article. I know that you love monotone and black and white prints, so this article must be for you.

I think, this is an interesting story that you should read, Ercilia Santos, because you can see how those scenarios are happen in real life. Each of the scenarios has an important message that you can appreciate at the end of each story.

    Navigating through the NY Times website I found an article about self-driving vehicles that might interest you. In the article written by PUI-WING TAM, he said that “Intel is looking to buy the Israeli company Mobileye that makes digital vision technology, for $15.3 billion.” I feel like you should start reading articles like this one because they talk about how self-driving vehicles will be the future even though a lot of people might be against it. It is something that is going to happen soon. This will be a good article for you to start from.

    “Hoverboards” by Goulet, is the article that i recommend to read this article especially for people who want to get a hoverboard, because this article will let you know how bad a hoverboard is. For example, Hoverboards may catch fire, looking ridiculous while standing on it, easily falling down, and nowaday many places banned to ride Hoverboards, especially, you are not allowed carry it into airport or subway. This article is talking about the disadvantages about hoverboards, therefore, I recommend to read it, so you won’t waste few hundreds dollars and never use it.

    For my friend who need to read something every now and then, I would recommend the article, “Games of Drones,” by Michiel Driebergen for numerous reasons. For starters, this article talks about the fighting between Eastern Ukraine and the Russian Federation.From the perspective of the Ukrainians they use drones in their fight so they can gather useful intel. One of the Ukrainians, Volodymyr Hrynyuk, says about the drones, “With a drone it would be so much easier to observe the enemy and pinpoint their weaponry. That reduces the risk of our men being killed by shelling.” (Driebergen, 2017, p.129)

    I highly recommend for you to read an article by Moshe Z. Marvit entitled “Socialism in the Basement”, because you will learn about how socialism could have saved jobs in the Steel Valley in Ohio from the 1970s onward. The author of the article traveled to Niles, a town outside of Youngstown, Ohio and interviewed Staughton Lynd, a professor-turned lawyer, who at the age of 87 is still fighting for the rights of the underprivileged. The article gives the reader a fascinating account of why people need to learn about socialism through experience for things to improve in their communities.

The article discusses how Trump’s desire for local officers to begin enforcing federal immigration law is affecting police efforts to fight gang violence in Brentwood, New York. Undocumented immigrants in the community are now reluctant to report crimes or gang violence to the police, or testify as witnesses, in fear that they will be deported.

    I recommend that you should read the article “Programmable Features Improve Fast Charging”, by Steve Schnier because it has given the idea of fast charging batteries of wearable devices. Schnier argues that more energy should be entered into the battery in order to charge the battery faster. Normal chargers use 0.5 Coulomb charge rate and 4.32 Volts final battery charge voltage. If the fast charge current is set higher than 0.5C and keep the charging voltage lower, It will drive more current into the battery in no time which will charge the battery much faster which can be achieved by programmable host controller.

    The article elaborates on the process cyber hackers go through while assembling their team. They select the best of the best to get the job done. Similarly, the author is urging business to adopt the same process and assemble a team of the very best. This would protect businesses from getting hacked as this very well put together team of professionals will be there to fight them off. Hence, this will eliminate some difficulties that businesses are faced with on a regular basis with cybersecurity.

    I recommend you to read the article by Jason Overdorf called, “Invisible Brutes” because it will give you a great perspective of how privileged we are to have a working justice system in the US. By the numbers, India convicts only one third of sex crimes, mostly due to the inadequate training of police to collect and preserve evidence. Also, it takes an average of 10 years for a case to go to trial. Moreover, there is no National Sex Registry. These conditions spawn the perfect ground for sex predators who are now raping teenagers, and even infants and toddlers.

    I recommend that you read the article; “Electronic Money is Too Easy.” This recommendation underscores my concern with privacy/intrusion by the government. Big Brother can take a hike. By using the Electronic Funds Transfer or EFT system the government can create a dossier on my finances. Already I worry about the EZ pass technology that allows the government to track my movements. When making purchases online the government knows what I buy and the method used to make purchase(s) and the financial institution. By using Netflix even entertainment is monitored. I do not gamble but if tempted nefarious characters can obtain information by checking my finances.

    President Trump signed a second travel ban, which imposes travel restrictions to people from six Muslim nations, the measures were supposed to become legitimate on Thursday night at 12:01 a.m. however thanks to a U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson the executive order was temporary blocked.

    The purpose of this memo is to make a recommendation to an article called “Risk Assessment: What Future are You Planning for?” by Sikich, Geary W. If you really want to know what risk assessment is all about then you have to understand that there is level into Identified Risks; the level Likelihood of Realization, Impact and Depth of Penetration, Touch points Affected, Non linearity, Opacity, Reactivity, and Velocity. And within this list, there’s different risk velocity to prioritize the risk on probability and impact that are outpaced by speed at which risks navigation within an organization. According to the article there are three sphere that can determine the output of a what reflect risk, such as Influence, Interest, and Responsibility. So in general, this article provide all that is necessarily to becoming a great risk manager and i recommend this article to everyone who may want to get into understand risk management.

    One recent article I read was written by Steve Lohr, “A.I. Is Doing Legal Work. But It Won’t Replace Lawyers, Yet.” This article was featured in the New York Times and explores the use of artificial intelligence in the legal environment and discusses the concerns lawyers have with this new technological element.

    The article outlines how A.I will automate and change certain facets of the job that lawyers do and includes comparative information on the tasks that A.I will be unable to handle even with the advances in technology. The article also describes specific technology being used in the field today and how they function. I would recommend this article to everyone, because there is a reoccurring theme being discussed across America today where job loss is being attributed to automation in various industries and how it is impacting the economy and everyday life. Technological advances are occurring in many professions and its effects can be noted across a broad spectrum of jobs.
