    SUBJECT: Occupational Outlook Handbook Memo

The purpose of this memo is to demonstrate the benefits and challenges pertaining to getting a job in the Electrical Engineering field. The goal is to be able to find the benefits and challenges of getting a job in Electrical Engineering by using a occupational outlook handbook on the website https://www.bls.gov/ooh.

To begin with, there are several benefits pertaining to landing a job in Electrical Engineering. One benefit is there is room for advancement to a supervisor position or manager of a electrical engineering team. This is once you have worked years with more experienced engineers when you first start out as a electrical engineer. Another benefit is that as technology evolves more engineers are needed to adapt to changes in technology. Basically this means there is a lot of companies always looking to hire new Electrical Engineers. This is a more stable field. Also the median pay as of May 2015 was 95,230. This convinces me I would have a more secured life financially. You get to work in a career that you like and make a good living. Overall, theses are some of the benefits when it comes to taking a job in Electrical Engineering.

Next, there are challenges that people face when taking a job in electrical Engineering. One challenge is that it is required that you have a Bachelor degree. So four years of hard work and dedication is needed in study Electrical Engineering in college. You have to have concentration when it comes to designing circuits and identifying component characteristics. Another challenge is knowing there is little to know change of employment from 2014-2024. This makes ,e worry about whether there would be a lot of places hiring for electrical Engineers by the time I graduate. Also you have to have math skills such as basic knowledge of calculus and other advanced math courses to do troubleshooting. Overall, there is certain challenges that a person may face pertaining to taking a job in Electrical Engineering.

Healthcare administration is one of the largest industry with a variety of administration positions opening in its field. Opportunities in the field are growing and attracting professionals in seeking advancement in their careers. This memo is to illustrate the benefits and challenges that come with entering the field of a healthcare administrator.

Medical and Health Service Managers also known as Healthcare administrators has a function of planning, directing and coordinating medical and health services. It is a growing industry and provides many benefits to those who chose to enter the career. Unlike many other careers, jobs that are in healthcare administration are diverse and have a broad range of positions such as Nursing home administrators, Clinical managers, Health information managers, and Assistant administrators. Another benefit is the high salaries and the opportunities for advancement. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, “the average salary range for an administrator is $94,500”(Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay, para. 1). Not only are you able to receive high pay but many companies that employee healthcare administrators allow the employees to get a master’s degree in the field of study and they are willing to pay for education.

Health care administrators face challenges related to their field usually beyond the control of their position. The first challenge faced are the long work hours. They usually work round-the-clock and are on-call to handle issues with patient, physician, or administrative issues. Their work are never done. The next challenge would be the area of maintaining budgeting, administrators faces budget challenges because there are usually not enough money to meet all the needs of the company or departments. Another challenge would include new policies placement and making sure every department and staff are adhering to those procedures and policies in the workplace. According to Occupational Outlook Handbook, “Ethic place a huge roll in being a health care administration, with proper legal ethics you avoid lawsuits and patient complaint because compliance are being followed”((Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, para. 4)..

My major is Electrical Engineering. Basically, the career is about doing electrical projects and troubleshooting. There would be many problems and I have to overcome it, the best rewards are from solving problems.

It is hard to become electrical Engineer, a According to occupational outlook handbook, “To become one , it is required a degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program, a passing score on the fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, Relevant work experience, and a passing score on the professional Engineering (PE)” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016-17, How to become one, para. 8). First, I have to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam when I finished associate degree. Next, I should finish my bachelor’s degree to get an ABET- accredited engineering program. Furthermore, it is required few years working experience in the field but it will be hard for me to get a job. Finally, i need to take the Professional Engineering exam to become an Electrical Engineer. There are many challenges in this field. From occupational outlook handbook I found some skills that i really need to overcome which are speaking and writing. As many immigrants I my english should improve in order to communication with teammates and help customers understand own products. In additional, it is important to be familiar with the following skills listed in occupational outlook handbook, “ concentration, initiative, interpersonal skills, and math skills” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016-17, How to become one, para. 7). Basically, Engineers need to be patient and concentrated when deal with multiple design elements and technical characteristics, because one mistake will lead whole project fail. Engineers never stop learning, because new technologies are continuously changing. Engineers is better to work with team, because they can learn from co-workers. Engineers also need higher math such as calculus to solve problems.

Electrical Engineering jobs are growing slowly from 2014 to 2024. According to occupational outlook handbook, “Change in employment is expected to be tempered by slow growth or decline in most manufacturing sectors in which electrical and electronics engineers are employed” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016-17, summary, para. 5). The good thing is that here be stable and Engineer won’t suddenly lose jobs, because people always need new technologies make their life easier.

    SUBJECT: Occupation Handbook Memo

This memo will provide information on the the positive outcomes of the Legal career, the challenges that are involved, the skills necessary for the profession, among other things. I will first begin with the educational requirements to become a Paralegal.
According to Bureau Labor of Statistics, most law firms require their employees to have a Bachelor’s degree, but because there are not many colleges that offer a four year degree in Legal Studies, most people obtain an associates degree in legal studies, and their Bachelor’s in another subject. These programs will teach the student the skills necessary to be a good paralegal, such as communication skills, computer skills, interpersonal skills, organization skills, research skills.
Some of the duties a Paralegal might hold in a law firm are investigating and gathering case facts, conduct research on current law, draft correspondence legal documents to aid lawyers in cases. Depending on the law focus of the firm the paralegal might have different and specific duties. Often working together with a legal team of lawyers and other legal assistants. A paralegal’s salary varies on the level of education and also in the career sector they are employed in.
According to Bureau Labor of Statistics, “The median annual wage for paralegals and legal assistants was $48,810 in May 2015. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $30,670, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $79,010.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016, Legal, para. 5). There are multiple optional sector as to where a paralegal can be employed these are Federal Government, Financial and insurance, Local Government, Legal Services, and State Governments.
Some challenges a paralegal can face is being able to work under pressure and tight deadlines.Possibly working over forty hours to meet a project deadline. Also having to travel to gather information might be an issue for those who have other responsibilities. A major aspect of the career outlook is the competitiveness of the legal field, according to the OOH “Demand for paralegals within certain practice areas is dependent upon the overall health of the economy. During periods of slow economic growth, law firms’ workloads may decrease as clients become less likely to engage in litigation, mergers, or other types of activity requiring legal expertise. When work is slow, lawyers will have less work to delegate to paralegals. This may make a firm less likely to keep some paralegals on staff or to hire new ones until the workload increases.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016, Legal, para. 6)
Overall there are many opportunities for a Paralegal; “Paralegals with strong computer and database management skills should have the best job prospects. In addition, many firms will prefer paralegals with experience and specialization in high-demand practice areas.”(Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016, Legal, para. 6)

The following is about the career of electrical engineering. Found from the Occupational Outlook Handbook online, the following paragraph will discuss different things about electrical engineering, be it the benefits or the challenges faced when on the job.

Electrical engineering is a career that focuses on designing, developing, testing, and supervising the manufacturing electrical equipment. Some examples of the equipment include electric motors, radar and navigation systems, communications systems, and power generation equipment. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook online, it states, “Electrical and electronic engineers held about 315,900 jobs in 2014,” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, para. 2). Electrical engineers mostly work indoors in offices, they will go to job sites to see the problem or a certain part of complex equipment.

For high school students who wish to become electrical engineers, it helps to take courses in physics and mathematics. Such classes from mathematics include algebra, calculus, and trigonometry. Aside from these classes, because electrical engineers need to prepare technical drawing for the workplace, courses in drafting a beneficial. To become an electrical engineer, you will need a bachelor degree where classes take place in the classroom, laboratory, and in field studies. The programs in electrical engineering should be accredited by the ABET. In addition to needing a bachelor’s degree, someone who wants to become an electrical engineer needs a degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program, a passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, relevant work experience, and a passing score the Professional Engineering exam. Qualities needed for people working in an electrical engineering workspace include concentration, initiative, interpersonal skills, math skills, speaking skills, and writing skills.

The annual wage of an electrical engineer is was recorded to be $95,230 in May 2015. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, it shows that there is little to no change of employment from 2014 to 2024. It also states that the job growth of electrical engineers would occur mostly in engineering service firms.Other occupations that are similar to people who want to become electrical engineers include aerospace engineers, architectural and engineering managers, biomedical engineers, computer hardware engineers, electrical and electronics engineering technicians, electricians, electro-mechanical technicians, and sales engineers.

    SUBJECT: Project 1, OOH Memo

The purpose of this memo is to provide a brief analysis of Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) for Medical and Health Services Manager career, also know and further referred as Health Services Administrator (HSA) and is intended to identify career’s benefits and challenges. HSA professionals’ responsibilities and duties include management, planning, directing, and coordination medical and health services as well as accountability for supervised facility compliance with the latest healthcare laws, guidelines, and technology (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, What They Do, para. 1).

During the analysis of OOH I was able to distinguish several advantages related to HSA career. According to OOH, Job Outlook section (para.1) the estimated growth for this occupation is 17% in the 2014-24 time-period, which will provide broad work placement opportunities with substantial financial compensation. HSA are employed by wide range of healthcare facilities such as hospitals, medical groups and physician practices, nursing and residential care facilities, government, and home healthcare agencies (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Work Environment, para. 2). The median annual salary of HSA in 2015 totaled to $94,500 with the lowest earning being less than $56,230 and the highest reaching $165,380 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay, para. 1).

However, OOH analysis revealed multiple challenges for prospective HSA professionals. HSA job requires a minimum of bachelor degree in health or business administration, yet some employers prefer master’s degree, which extends HSA’s education time-period by 2 to 3 years minimum. Besides formal education future HSA needs to acquire administrative or clinical work experience in any healthcare facility in order to advance his/hers job qualification, which can be extremely challenging for individuals who transition to HAS career another occupation (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, How to Become One, para. 1,2,3). Moreover, additional credentials and licenses may be required for HSA job qualifications depending on the state regulations and specifics of the work filed. It is also common for HSA workweek to exceed 40 hours. Some work settings require HSA to work evening and weekend hours and to be on call in case of emergency (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Work Environment, para. 3).

As we can see career in medical and health service management requires from prospective candidate to be willing to dedicate his/hers time and to continuously advance his/hers knowledge regarding the healthcare industry. And in return, the growing healthcare industry offers extensive and growing employment opportunity with generous financial reward and potential career development in the field.

SUBJECT: Project 1, Occupational Outlook Handbook Memo

This memo’s purpose is to highlight the most important benefits, and the greatest challenges for my chosen career path – becoming a lawyer – using the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ OOH.

When it comes to the beneficial facts for a lawyer many people are inclined to think immediately about an attorney’s salary. “The median annual wage for lawyers was $115,820 in May 2015” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay, para.1). By any means this is certainly a high median wage, but one should keep in mind that most of the top earning lawyers work in the finance and insurance industry representing some of the biggest corporations in that sector. Generally speaking “salaries of experienced lawyers vary widely according to the type, size, and location of their employer. Lawyers who own their own practices usually earn less than those who are partners in law firms” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay, para. 3).
While the pay is without doubt a big factor for most people when it comes to choosing a career, maybe the most important beneficial factor for becoming a lawyer for me is the fact that I have many career paths to pick from. A lawyer’s expertise is a valid asset in many industries and governmental agencies, hence an attorney can choose the direction of their career path by deciding whether he/she is best suited to work in the private industry sector, or defending the rules and regulations of the federal, state, and/or local government. Last but not least I would also like to highlight the fact that the profession of an attorney is a transferable skill and allows one to be flexible when it comes to moving between states. “However, to be licensed in another state, a lawyer may have to take an additional state bar examination” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, para. 6).

While an attorney’s pay and the freedom to have many career paths to pick from is definitely a positive aspect, it should not go unnoticed that “employment of lawyers is projected to grow 6 percent from 2014 to 2024, about as fast as the average for all occupations” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, para. 1). This surely has to do with the fact that “competition for jobs should continue to be strong because more students are graduating from law school each year than there are jobs available” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, para. 5). That sums up one of the biggest challenges for any aspiring attorney and highlights the fact that competition for particularly sought after positions is going to become even fiercer in the future.
And last but not least, I think it is of utter importance to emphasize how hard it is to become an attorney. “Becoming a lawyer usually takes 7 years of full-time study after high school—4 years of undergraduate study, followed by 3 years of law school” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, 2015, How to Become One, para. 1).

The purpose of this memo is to discuss the benefits and challenges of Electrical and Electronics Engineering career. I’ll discuss about the duties, work environment, and some basic qualities that are necessary to become a successful engineer.

Electrical and electronics engineering jobs are very challenging and can be stressful some times because they have to work in design, development, testing, manufacturing of electrical equipment, improve new products, and performed complex tasks related to construction and design to ensure quality, and specify standard codes (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, What They Do, para. 3). Electrical Engineers also have a lot of benefits too. Employers offer good pay, health insurance, sick leaves, vacations and retirement plans as well. According to BLS, the median annual wage of Electrical Engineers was $93,010, and Electronics Engineers was $98,270 in May 2015 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay, para. 1-2).

These engineers mostly work indoor in their offices, and sometimes when they work with project managers, they may visit sites to do inspections. It means that these engineers work in a comfortable environment which require minimum job travel.

No doubt, Electrical and electronics engineers has a lot of benefits, but the biggest challenge is obtaining your first job. The first challenge of obtaining a job in this career is qualification. You need to have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics or Electrical Engineering technology, and the program should be accredited by ABET. Mostly entry level jobs doesn’t require experience however higher level jobs require Professional Engineering license. Electrical Engineers also require some important skills such as: Math and engineering skills, concentration, interpersonal and technical skills due to working in the development of complex electrical systems and designs (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, How to Become One, para. 6).

Overall, there are a lot of employment opportunities available in the market for Electrical and Electronics Engineers in the engineering service firms, and in the development of new technologies. According to BLS, 315,900 Electrical and electronics engineers were employed which is a very good sign for upcoming engineers (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook).

Below you will find information about the Web Developer career from the Occupational Outlook Handbook by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

One of the greatest benefits about pursuing a career in web development is the opportunity to be self employed. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, “About 1 in 7 of web developers were self-employed in 2014.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Work Environment, para. 2) Being self employed is an idea I have been thinking about, which will allow me to work when, and where I want in a lot of cases. This is ideal to anyone who wants to start a business, like I do. The business potential is great as a web developer seeing that, “employment of web developers is projected to grow 27 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, para. 1) Two other great benefits are that of schooling/education and specialization. “An associate’s degree in web design or related field is the most common requirement.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, How to Become One, para. 2) With my bachelor’s degree almost completed, I will have a leg up on some of the competition. As for specialization, I specialize in front-end and back-end developing. This greatly expands on the opportunities I have.

There are a few challenges to this pursuing this occupation. One of the challenges is pay. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, “The median annual wage for web developers was $64,970 in May 2015.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay, para. 1) That is not much and means I will have to choose a company carefully to make a desirable income. Another challenge, although already listed as a benefit, would be education.

    The Handbook states:
Many employers also want developers to understand other programming languages, such as JavaScript or SQL, as well as have some knowledge of multimedia publishing tools, such as Flash. Throughout their career, web developers must keep up to date on new tools and computer languages. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, How to Become One, para. 4)

Keeping up to date is a little difficult when you consider that many programming languages are constantly improving and evolving. These are a few challenges that overall, can be overcomed. It will take some work on my end, but it can be done, and I will do it.

This memorandum is intended to explore future career options as they relate to employment as a professional technical writer. It contains an examination of the pros and cons including the benefits and inherent challenges to enable an informed decision. My strong suit is writing instruction manuals to do particular tasks including an ability to offer distilled reports on complex subjects.

The first task is understanding the function(s) of a technical writer i.e. what technical writers, also called technical communicators, do (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, What technical writers do, para. 2). Obviously having a college degree is a plus but also bringing many years of hands on experience in the electronic and electrical field is helpful. While there is an understanding that working full time in an office, is what most technical writers do, I am more interested in looking for work as a free-lancer. So a challenge will be able to create a portfolio to market one skills to a large audience to maximize a paycheck. Comfort can be taken in the fact that employment of technical writers is projected to grow 10 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016-2017, Job Prospects, para. 2).

What is galling is an observation that instructions on assembly packets that one receives, when making a purchase, are so complex and tedious. These instructions can be written in ways simpler to understand thereby limiting frustrations that consumers experience. I think I can perform in this regard.

Another challenge is maintaining a health insurance and a retirement package. So a salary and benefits that I seek must facilitate this (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016-17, Pay para.1). I also am a realist and appreciate that, all things being equal, it will take me some time to achieve a living wage in a new career. While this career move may mean living in a different city and state the information available is rather instructive (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Occupation Employment Statistics, paras. 1 through 5). The nation’s capital holds much allure and the pay there is good. That’s a benefit if a decision to relocate and work for a particular outfit is made. The challenge as a freelancer is real. Usually technical writers collaborate with engineers and others in the scientific field (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Work Environment, para.1). Being isolated as a freelancer has disadvantages. The balance sheet, however, is that the benefits of the job as a technical writer outweigh the challenges. So the laying out of options is a good start.

The Benefits and Challenges to Obtaining a Job in Railroad Work

The career I plan to pursue called Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Train Operator. The closest career I found from the Occupational Outlook Handbook related to my career of pursuit is Railroad Workers. Some of the advantages of Railroad Workers in railroad occupations is that they ensure that passenger and freight trains run on time and travel safely. Some workers drive trains, some coordinate the activities of the trains, and others operate signals and switches in the rail yard. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, Railroad Workers, Summary, para. 1).

Further advantage include the work environment nearly all locomotive engineers; conductors and yardmasters; and brake, signal, and switch operators work in the rail transportation industry. Rail yard engineers work in rail transportation and also support activities for rail. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, Railroad Workers, Summary, para. 2). Other advantages of becoming a Railroad Worker is the degree requirements for Railroad workers typically only require a high school diploma. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, Railroad Workers, Summary, para. 3). As for the pay it is above average with the median annual wage for railroad workers being $55,180 in May 2015. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, Railroad Workers, Summary, para. 4)

Some of the disadvantages of Railroad workers may be the several months of on-the-job training required. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, Railroad Workers, Summary, para. 3). The Job outlook can be considered a disadvantage of employment of railroad workers because their employment is projected to decline 3 percent from 2014 to 2024. Although demand for rail transportation may grow, an increase in productivity may hold back employment growth in rail occupations. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, Railroad Workers, Summary, para. 5). A disadvantage for Conductors is that they have to deal with unruly passengers when needed. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, Railroad Workers, What They Do, para. 12).

The objective of a career in the paralegal field is to provide support and work in tandem with attorney’s by completing various tasks such as; legal research, drafting documents and aiding with legal proceedings. According to the OOH, “most paralegals and legal assistants have an associate’s degree in paralegal studies, or a bachelor’s degree in another field and a certificate in paralegal studies (BLS, 2015).” The OOH also states that proficiency in, “Communications skills, Computer skills, Research and Organizational skills” (BLS, 2015) are some of the key requirements potential employees will look for when hiring paralegals.

Some of the benefits of becoming a paralegal include having the flexibility to specialize and perform in many different areas in field, such as: immigration, litigation or a corporate law. The OOH specified that opportunities within the paralegal field are projected to grow from “8 percent from 2014 to 2024”(BLS, 2015), and indicated that the estimated median earning income potential to be “$48,810 as of May 2015” (BLS, 2015).

One advantage described by the OOH is that “paralegals can be a less costly alternative to lawyers,” (BLS, 2015) since lawyers cost more per hour than a paralegal would. This could prove to be an advantage to paralegals who are well versed in the legal field and would create, “an increase in demand for paralegals and legal assistants, in terms of higher pay and opportunities for advancement”(BLS, 2015). On the other hand, a disadvantage the OHH specifies is that, “during periods of slow economic growth, law firms’ workloads may decrease as clients become less likely to engage in litigation, mergers, or other types of activity requiring legal expertise. When work is slow, lawyers will have less work to delegate to paralegals.”(BLS, 2015)

Some transitional careers outlined in the OHH as an alternative for paralegals include: “Lawyers, Claims Adjusters, Appraisers, Examiners, and Investigators.” (BLS, 2015)

After reviewing the bureau of labor and statistics
The first occupation I took into consideration in my current field of study was aeronautics. A little background of this job, it involves work with generally airbound crafts, such as missile, satellites and spacecrafts. The main reason why I even considered this job is because I don’t believe I would be content with small scale engineering jobs. I would enjoy my work more if it would go beyond the responsibilities of regular employment.
As stated from OOH the educational level of requirement is a bachelor’s degree. One aspect I see as a benefit of this job is the number of people that if I claim this job I would be competing with, about 73,000. Another major element I considered was the pay, $107,830 per year($51.84 per hour). A pay below 100,000 in today’s economic climate I believe wouldn’t be substantial for long. In addition there is expected to be a decline in numbers from 2015-24 with this decline I feel as with technology advance it would only meant that things such as traveling farther and staying long in space would be inevitable.
Space isn’t the only type of project that may come my way, as previously stated airbound crafts will be the job. This includes commercial and military air crafts.
The duties include going through the designing, manufacturing, and testing process of projects. Deciding if certain projects can be beneficial to the company and if so how. All while keeping in mind the safety of the aircraft, customers, and company brand. Also with many projects keeping up with deadlines.
Certain problematic issues I’ll have to consider is as with many demanding professions there’s no on job training which tells me that from day one on the job I need to know what I must do and several ways to do it. While occasionally peers may assist, ultimately I would need to take on a lot of responsibility.

    SUBJECT: Project 1, OOH Memo

This memo has the purpose of exploring what are some of the benefits of obtaining a job as an attorney in the legal field according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2016-17 Edition. Equally, it will expose the challenges one faces in order to secure such job title, which are also set forth in the stated reference.
A career as a lawyer sounds in and of itself as a rewarding career. Lawyers are said to be paid well for what they do and have in society a great deal of respect for having achieved such status. Although, such status did not come easily and is not an intact everlasting one, i.e., “Almost all states require lawyers to participate in continuing legal education either every year or every 3 years” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, How To Become One, para. 9). A challenge of being a lawyer is that you have to commit to studying and attending classes for the rest of your life. It all starts with the requirement of any Bachelor’s degree. Then, to enter law school, applicants are required to take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, How To Become One, para. 3). After 3 years of law school, “Prospective lawyers take licensing exams called “bar exams”” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, How To Become One, para. 5) and only then, are allowed to practice law. An issue that arises in this field, by today’s standards, is that, “Competition for jobs should continue to be strong because more students are graduating from law school each year than there are jobs available” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, para. 5).
Next, once a job is secured, challenges with real life implications begin. “The majority of lawyers work full time, and many work more than the usual 40 hours per week” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Work Environment, para. 4). Also, lawyers have to travel to attend meetings with clients at various locations, such as homes, hospitals, prisons, and appear before courts (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Work Environment, para. 3). Further, lawyers may face heavy pressure during work, for example during trials or when trying to meet deadlines. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Work Environment, para. 3). An important factor to mention is that there is a lot of public expectation for the job performed by any lawyer.
For the good news, “The median annual wage for lawyers was $115,820 in May 2015” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay, para. 1). Also, a law degree allow one to a enter a multitude of different areas of daily life where lawyers are needed to, “counsel their clients about their legal rights and obligations and suggest courses of action in business and personal matters” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, What They Do, para. 4). Lawyers possess great analytical skills and interpersonal skill, coupled with great speaking and writing skills, which in all allows lawyers to choose to be prosecutors, or legal aid lawyers; teachers in law schools, or tax lawyers; even Entertainment or Environmental lawyers if they choose to.

The purpose of this memo is to discuss the benefits and challenges of Graphic Designer position based on the Occupational Outlook Handbook by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The graphic design is a very interesting type of job, especially for the person who love art and design. “Graphic designer create visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate consumers. They develop the overall layout and production design for various applications such as advertisements, brochures, magazines, and corporate reports.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, What Graphic Designers Do)

There are a bunch of nice things to be a graphic designer. They can work from home, or they can run their own business as a self employee or freelancer. Now a day the high speed internet connection also favours the designers to upload or download larger files, which favor to becomes self employed. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, “In 2014, about 1 in 5 graphic designers were self-employed.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Work Environment) I love to work independently on my own, so to be a self-employed graphic designer is one of an important factor for me. Even as an employee, some company allows to work remotely.

Job outlook for the Graphic designer position is only 1% for 2014-2024, which is not a good sign. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Quick Facts). But, there is still some hopes for me since I do illustration and photography too. In most cases, graphic designers have to rely on photography and illustration. As an illustrator/photographer myself, it is very helpful to have a multiple skill set to help my career as a graphic designer. All round ability to do photography or illustration to support graphic design skill, cuts lots of time and also increase productivity. I believe there are many opportunity for multitasking graphic designers.

In the old days, many graphic designer jobs need a good portfolio, but this is no longer possible in modern day. A Graphic designer need as bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, How to become a Graphic Designer) For me, I already have an Associate in Graphic Design, and persuading my Bachelors in Communication Design. I only need to finish my senior project next fall. I already working in an advertising agency as a graphic designer, and looking for more secure position after achieving my degree.

The earning of a graphic designer is not very high. Based on 2015 statistics, the median annual wage for graphic designers was only $46,900. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay). This fact may not be a pleasing fact for everyone. But no one can buy everything with money in live. So as far as we love the job, it is a great choice to work with.

This memo was drafted for the purpose of expanding on the pros and cons of the legal profession. The facts used in this memo were gathered from the Occupational Outlook Handbook by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
To begin, paralegals also referred to as legal assistants are trusted with a number of duties. These include tasks that support the attorneys, maintaining and organizing files, conducting legal research and drafting documents. However, the assigned tasks and workload may vary based on the size of the firm. “Paralegals do most of their work in offices. Occasionally, they may travel to gather information, collect and review documents, accompany attorneys to depositions or trials, and do other tasks.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Work, para. 2) There are a number of different ways in which one can become a paralegal, by obtaining associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree and/ or master’s degree in paralegal studies. However, besides possessing a degree a paralegal must also have communication skills, computer skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills and research skills. The median annual wage for paralegals and legal assistants was $48,810 in May 2015.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay, para. 1) With law firms cutting on the cost to reduce their fee, they’re hiring paralegals and legal assistants as “hybrid” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job, para. 1). Meaning that paralegals will play the role of doing both traditional paralegal duties as well as previously assigned tasks to secretaries or other legal support workers.

This memo contains the greatest benefits and challenges of a career as a lawyer — information gathered and concluded from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook.

The greatest benefits of a career as a lawyer include its salary, with a median of $115,820 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay, para. 1). In addition, although lawyers have similar general duties, there is a wide range of industries and fields of law that one may choose to work in. More specifically, a lawyer may choose to work in federal, state, or local government, at a corporation, or for a non-profit organization. Lawyers may also work as government counsels, writing and interpreting laws, regulations, and enforcement procedures (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, What Lawyers Do, para. 7-11). In addition to the positions and work environments a lawyer may choose from, there are also different areas of law that specialize in entirely different topics. For example, there is environmental law, criminal law, family law, tax law, estates trusts and wills law, and more (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, What Lawyers Do, para. 13-18). Additionally, a lawyer may choose to become a law professor, or, after years of practice, a lawyer may also be elected or appointed as a judge as well. This variety of choices as well as the higher than average salary are the greatest benefits of a career in law.

The greatest challenges of a career as a lawyer are the additional years of education mandatory, the stressful and often long work hours, and the high competition for jobs. In order to become a lawyer, one must have a bachelor’s degree, as well as an additional three years in an ABA accredited law school in order to receive a juris doctor (J.D.) degree (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, How To Become A Lawyer, para. 1). In addition to the higher education requirements, a state bar exam must be passed in order to be licensed to practice law in that state, which also means that if someone wanted to move to a different part of the country, he or she would have to take that state’s bar exam in order to be able to work as a lawyer there (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, How To Become A Lawyer, para. 5-8). Being a lawyer also means working in an often stressful environment, working late nights and long hours that usually extend beyond the typical 40-hour workweek (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Work Environment, para. 3). Lastly, pursuing a career as a lawyer also means facing a lot of job competition after graduation, as there are more students graduating from law school than there are jobs available (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, para. 5).

The career I’m studying is electrical engineering. On the Occupational Outlook Handbook, i searched for this career. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, an electrical engineer is a person who works to design, develop, test and supervise the manufacturing of an electrical equipment. Such as electric motors, navigation systems, communication systems, and power generation system. According to Bureau of Labor Statistic, “The median annual wage for electrical engineers was $93,010 in May 2015. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $59,240, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $146,820.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Pay, para. 1). Adding to this, the jobs held in 2014 were about 315,900. Which I find a good number of jobs. Also, in this type of work will be done indoors, or they will have to go to job sites and inspect the problems with a certain part of the complex equipment.

It is required to have an electrical engineering Bachelors degree. Moreover, the person applying for this type of job need to have a good concentration, have the initiative to engage in new projects, and skills in math, writing, speaking and interpersonal (To be able to work in a team). You can get a licensure which will promote yourself aa Professional Engineer (PE). However, it’s not necessary, although you will be making much more money with a licensure. Moreover, according to the Borough of Labor, “Employment of electrical and electronics engineers is projected to show little or no change from 2014 to 2024.” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015, Job Outlook, para. 1). The increase of jobs will mostly take in engineering services firms. Also, improvement of technology will demand electrical and electronics engineers in research and development.
