    While this is not the job I want to do, the job is very close to it. The job I truly want is to be a screenwright. The job title in the job AD is an Acquisitions Editor/Sr. Editor, Fiction and Nonfiction. The company looking for the Acquisitions Editor is Harpercollins.

    Harpercollins is a publishing company. The company is a private own company. It was founded in 1817. The founders are James and John Harper who are brothers. The company consist different groups of publishing companies. A few of the big named groups are HarperCollins General Books, HarperCollins Children’s Book, HarperCollins Christian Publishing, and HarperCollins UK. According to LexisNexis “Along with the rest of the publishing world, HarperCollins is focused on growing its e-book sales. In the new media realm, HarperCollins publishes digital copies of its books and maintains them in a digital warehouse. HarperCollins has released more than 8,700 e-books, 50 enhanced e-books, and 70 apps” (LexisNexis, March 1, 2017, paragraph 4). Since 2000 the company has worked with BET(Black Entertainment Television) to launch books and bookstores that featured African-American authors.

    According to the job AD the Acquisitions Editor is “responsible for soliciting, recommending, acquiring and developing authors of fiction in genres such as thrillers, mysteries, suspense, and action-adventure and narrative nonfiction for a to-be-named trade imprint of Harlequin, and ensuring that the strategic direction will support the growth of the imprint” (monster.com, February 18, 2017, paragraph 1). As an Acquisition Editor you will work with the Editorial Director to formulate and create vision for imprint that are both noticeable and will sell. Get agents for both fiction and nonfiction works that meet the giving budget. You will also need to create relationships with new agents and recruit writers. According to the job AD to be qualified for the job you need:

    • Recent experience working with noteworthy authors
    • A University degree
    • Solid history of finding, editing and cultivating key authors

    To qualify for the job I would need to first get a university degree. Second I would need to work in the field for at least three years. Met and have had worked with noteworthy authors. Have a history of discovering authors or editing for them. Have a list of agents that I can contact. Work on my negotiation skills. Finally gain knowledge in the field of P&Ls and standard publishing contracts.

    The purpose of this memo is to research a job advertisement that requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional & Technical Writing. I am looking for jobs in communications and marketing. The job that I found that best aligned with my career as I near graduation is a Junior Writer for Communications at UBS Group AG. I found the job advertising on Monster.com, a popular global online employment tool. The job is looking for someone to “identify, draft and edit communications for internal and external audiences, including speeches, talking points, op-eds, letters, organizational memoranda, and client-facing communications, support the team that provides advice and guidance to the firm’s senior leaders about key messages and suitable communications channels as well as a few other things.” (2017, Monster)

    According to the UBS AG ad, a qualified candidate must hold a, “Bachelor degree in journalism, marketing, or communications, or equivalent professional work experience with demonstrated success.” (2017, Monster) UBS Group AG is a Switzerland global financial services company with their headquarters in Zurich and Basel. Currently, the stock price for UBS, which is traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), is $16.05, which is subject to change. Also, UBS AG has over 60,000 employees around the world, 900 offices in more than 50 countries.

    When I reviewed the Lexis Nexis Academic publication on UBS AG, I saw that the company has “five business division: Wealth Management, Wealth Management America, Retail & Corporate, Global Asset Management, and the Investment Bank.” (2017, Lexis Nexis) UBS AG caters to the private sector as well as the institutional and corporate clients. Additionally, I saw that the firm has 10 Board of Directors. I know that many of these types of company usually has a head hunter who specialize in hiring candidates from diverse backgrounds as a way to broaden the pool of candidates from various backgrounds. The Head of Diversity is Ms. Carolanne Minashi. I reviewed her LinkedIn page and her focus is on organizational culture and business performance across various fields.

    I will prepare for this job by tailoring my resume to include several of the qualification from the posting. I will position my resume as the candidate to hire. I will review my portfolio represent various styles of writing including the finance pieces as well some pharmaceutical pieces because they are all very regulated. I will submit my resume and a cover letter and view the company on LinkedIn so I can see whom the hiring manager/recruiter is. I have found that most hiring managers are available on LinkedIn and sometimes list their company email as a source of contact. Also, I worked in finance for almost one year. I learned about script writing to financial investors, wealth management and asset management. The year that I spent in finance has prepared me to work collaboratively with senior leadership as well as junior levels.

      I will have to finish my bachelor’s degree and get some experience in the real world. I will have to also brush up on my computer skills while I have experience in multiple subjects I will need to improve on them greatly. Dealing with people is something I may need more experience on because I’ve only dealt with a couple of people, but there is million different types of people. I believe at the job I’ll be flexible enough to teach those subjects since I am interested in most of those subjects offered. For school I’d like to do a big project with the student on the computer maybe something programmed related.

    The purpose of this essay is to analyze and investigate the field of education by using private company research to determine the best employment opportunities. This essay will have an overview of the analysis of the sought out employment establishment as well as future goals and requirements to achieve this job position.

    The company of my choice to seek employment at is YAI Network. YAI Network is a non profit organization that assists developmentally disabled individuals to have a more independent lifestyle. Since it is a non profit, financially SWOT data strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) may not be relevant. Nevertheless SWOT data can be generally interpreted simply through the company’s overall establishment in the industry of special needs services.

    I have personally had the opportunity to work with this organization with my current job title as a paraprofessional. Working for the DOE , I have an inside insight on what can be perceived as the company’s strengths. However, data can also be a factor in this. For example, in the New York Times article One Family’s Struggle With Microcephaly, by Marc Santora it states, “Fortunately, New York City has a robust early intervention program for toddlers with developmental problems” (Santora, 2016, pp. 16). This is great news when families require assistance to care for their children. Nevertheless, as the article also states “Unfortunately, that care ends after three years” (Santora, 2016, pp. 17). This is where YAI’s strength comes it. The strength of YAI is that is allows care to a wide range of ages into adulthood for people with developmental disabilities. This ensures care for a lifetime.

    The organization also has ha several years to establish itself as well as have supportive staff to run the organization. According to the article, Stephen Freeman Nmes CEO of YAI Network, written by PR Newswire, “Dr. Levy had been with the organization for 40 years. He was promoted to President of YAI in 1999 before being named CEO and president on July 1, 2009” (PR Newswire, 2011, pp. 2).

    The technical writer go beyond just writing in general. Especially in the healthcare industry, I’m expected to not only to know about my topic ,but explain it in relatable context on complex applications and devices. Which is a challenge I take head on. My job as a technical writer is to be the bridge in the advanced technical setting to the general society.

    A job that I recently found on Monster.Com gives me my ideal job through the Huntsworth Health Company. This company recently has posted a job opening for the Medical Copy Editor. Their definition of a Medical Copy Editor have these attributes, “Thoroughly understands medical and pharmaceutical terminology”,” Has excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills”, and Maintains high-quality work while maintaining deadlines”. Huntsworth Health Company (Monster.com). These attributes are essential to the company to protect their credibility to other industries in multimedia such as advertisements and email campaigns . The Medical copy editor for this company is apart of the infrastructure that work with copywriters, digital designers, and everyone in between. The positions entails the worker works with all types of editing to ensure that every documented project has the best scientific organization from work choice for clarity for multiple types audiences to proper the proper format. The Medical Copy Editor at this company reflects multiple parts and images of the country while being the bridge to other industries.

    The Huntsworth Health Company is a sub company of the global company of Huntsworth plc and partners with Evoke Health. The Company was established in 1996 and has become an emerging health communications company ever since. Their current CEO is Neil Matheson.

    After graduating City Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Systems, I see myself working for a company that creates mobile and/or web applications. I also want to work on applications in my spare time that can sell and make some income on the side. Eventually, when something works out (Ex: Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook), I would just focus on that as my main project and quit my job. In the meantime, we do need some sort of income in order to have a place to live and food to eat so it’s time to look for a job.
    The job ad I found on Monster.com was “Web Developer”. The company, “Fidelity Investments” is looking for someone that “participates in the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of web applications.” (jobs.vertitude.com, March 2017). “The ideal candidate will be designing and developing complex user flows in a single page web application to provide first class user experience.” The position requires experience in developing interactive user interface design and layouts, establish and promote UI interface guidelines, understanding of web architecture and UI frameworks, and also a person that can work independently if needed.
    According to Gale Business Insights: “Fidelity Investments is a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol FNF”. I believe that since this is a stock exchange company, they need someone to make their page look customer friendly. Also, since I have a part time job at starbucks, Fidelity Investments gives free stock to Starbucks partners every year. This would also help me grow with my personal life as well.
