Reflection #3 (1/15/25)

Think about a time when you joined a new group activity (maybe a team, religious retreat, club, or workplace).

  • How did you feel when you first joined?
  • Do you recall a moment when you felt like you were part of the group?
  • What benefits did you get from participation in the group?
  • What can you do to help yourself feel like part of a group at City Tech?

Feeling like part of a group at City Tech can improve my college experience. One of the first things I did was join CT-101, which helped me feel more comfortable, manage my schedule effectively, and make informed decisions. Additionally, I plan to join clubs or organizations that align with my interests to further integrate into the campus community. Also I would definitely take advantage of resources like the student center, tutoring and study groups.

This sounds like a great plan to get involved in school besides just attending classes,I will do the same exact thing and be joining a club for my intended major.I will also be going to the tutoring center frequently to make sure I understand all the information being given during lectures to make sure I pass my exams with flying colors.

Feeling like part of a group at City Tech can really make a difference, and it’s great that joining CT 101 has already helped you feel more comfortable and stay organized. Joining clubs that match your interests is a great way to connect with others and feel more at home on campus. Taking advantage of resources is also a good plan that i think all of us might do after this course.

It looked like me and you have the similar ideas to feel apart of City Tech is by either being apart of a club or creating our own type of club. What type of club that City Tech currently has interest you so far, if not what type of club do you have in mind that they should integrate in the college?

When I first joined this group I felt optimistic to learn more about the campus. I also knew automatically that there was going to be a lot of people at the start, and towards the end of our sessions it was going to get smaller. It was exactly like when I was attending to my 2024 fall classes. The benefits I got from participating in this group is the new strategies to get my assignments done. Another thing is organizing my notes for my classes. Lastly, I learned about all of the community center within the campus. What I could do to make myself feel apart of City Tech is signing up to be in a club to relieve my mind from school and meet new people in these clubs, and programs.

I definitely agree with you this course was very helpful and definitely a wake up call that I should plan my day out in an organize matter in order for me to see success in this starting school semester. I also seen first hand that I need to fix my sleep schedule in order to give my brain the proper rest to have a great day of absorbing the information I will be learner from my professors and lectures from them.signing up for an extra curriculum sounds like a great way to take your mind off all the stress that comes with studying and meeting new friends will make your college experience more thrilling.

I also have the same problem with fixing my sleep schedule as well, my entire family are essentially night owls and my sleep schedule slowly followed suit. The fact that were both typing this up at midnight and we meet at 9:30 is proof is a issue that needs to be solved before the semester starts.

I remember joining A new soccer club and the feeling of trembling due to the amount of anxiety and excitement I felt all at the same time ,the excitement coming from being in a new team and meeting new great players and then the anxiety and fear of playing horrible, being not as great as my teammates and opposing opponents.A moment when I felt apart of the team was when we went out on a team dinner and we had not one discussion about soccer but just had conversations about what we do on our free time , school, classes ,anime shows and other interesting small things that made us all different from each other. Benefits that I had from participating in the group were making countless friends and all had different personalities so this drastically helped my communication skills and team work skills which was either in the classroom or working on a project or on the field. Some things that I could do to help me feel more apart of city tech include joining a club which I do attend on doing the first week of school, either find a solution club or Mechatronics club, also communicating lots with my professor seeking for advice and new opportunities, engaging a lot in class with lots of participation.

    • Jeffrey

I also believe communication is key; I used to not consult to my teachers or peers for advice for a simple reasons like, “I don’t want to bother them,” or, “This would make me look dumb,” but those are just excuses for being afraid to talk to someone else about your problem. It never hurts to ask and it is the professors’ job to help students in the first place.

    • Laziza

Joining the soccer club sounds like such a meaningful experience. It’s great how you worked through your anxiety and ended up building connections with your teammates, especially during that team dinner, those little moments where everyone connects over everyday stuff really make a difference. It’s awesome that being part of the team helped you grow your communication and teamwork skills. And your plan for City Tech sounds like a great start!

In high school I joined the art club, the first time I went to the club room I was quite nervous since back then I tend to keep to myself. In the club I eventually got to know some of the people and it felt nice that everyone there shared a common interest yet is part of different majors. However it was quite short lived due to the pandemic pushing us out the school building. The club president did make a discord server to keep the community active, but for me it felt quite different from being there in the person and getting supported by my peers. Now in City Tech I feel like I should find myself a interest group or support either from joining clubs or the tutoring center, where you can talk to someone and not feel like you’re alienated in college, which is something I have experience with and it doesn’t great.

    • Laziza

It sounds like your experience in the art club really showed you how important it is to feel connected and supported by others. I can understand how the pandemic made that harder, especially with everything moving online—it’s just not the same as being there in person. It’s great that you’re thinking about joining clubs or finding support at City Tech. Having a place where you feel like you belong can make a huge difference, especially in college.

I joined a club in highschool for women in central asia. It wasn’t a very big group of girls but that just meant it was a therapy session for us almost every meet. I made connections with some upperclassmen that gave me advice on life after high school and so on. My bestfriend had forced me to go with her to these clubs meetings because she was a manager of something so I did just to spend time with her. And those little therapy sessions we had, I ended up opening up quite a bit too since all these girls went through similar experiences. To help myself feel apart of something at citytech, I think joining a club would help and or a program.

A time I joined a new soccer team, I felt new, felt I needed to show my personalities and introduce myself.

The Moment I felt I was part of them was when we all had unison goals to achieve, and we were all working towards the same achievement.

I got support and social relations from being a member of the group.

Finding a group with the same goals, personalities, hobbies and interest as me, and also be ready to socialize.

  8. Malique

A moment when I felt like I was apart of a group is when we all were communicating and working with each other on a topic. Also making jokes and having side conversations with each other which made me feel like I was apart of the group.
