Reflection #3

Think about a time when you joined a new group activity (maybe a team, religious retreat, club, or workplace).

  • How did you feel when you first joined?
  • Do you recall a moment when you felt like you were part of the group?
  • What benefits did you get from participation in the group?
  • What can you do to help yourself feel like part of a group at City Tech?Ā

    • What can you do to help yourself feel like part of a group at City Tech?

When joining a group at city tech one way to feel like part of the group is to participate more, that way your ideas are bounced from person to person, which can make you feel like you contributed

I agree because participating and share your ideas will make you feel like you a part of the group.

when I first joined a group i felt out of place and awkward.

When I was about to go home I got invited to eat out with others.

It was boxing so i got into better shape.

I can interact with more people and make friends here to feel like iā€™m part of a group.

Sometimes I feel awkward and nervous too when I join a group but over time I get comfortable and start interacting with my peers. I feel like itā€™s a normal thing.

I felt exited when I first joined. I felt as a part of the team when I scored first goal for the team. I gained run for long period of time and a way of using your legs properly. I should talk to everyone in the group and make something as a group to like a part.

I also get excited when I join a group because I get to meet new people and get to do fun stuff.

I was apart of a gaming club. The first time I joined I was nervous and soon after I was comfortable and when I recall a time I was part of a group was when they reached out nicely and made me participate and I gained communication skills and what can help be apart of a group is to join a club and then maybe someday start one.

Thereā€™s a game club at city tech, I sometimes see them playing in the cafeteria. Starting a club is a great idea.

I was part of a summer program in 2015. I was so nervous for the experience but was so excited as-well. About two weeks in I felt such a kinship with my roomates, classmates and the community rounding the program. I knew it would be hard to say goodbye to this kismet time with these people. Being part of the camp gave me a sense of responsibility and independence

to help harness that same feeling at city tech, Iā€™ll make friends, explore campus and converse with my teachers whenever possible!

Making sure that you communicate regularly with your professor can be helpful, that way if you need extra help like a recommendation letter they can help you with that.

A time i was in a group was when i was attending FDNY high school and was enrolled in the EMT academy. When i first joined this group i was comfortable because it was fun and i made friends fast. A time i felt apart of the group was during leadership sessions where I had to participate in various group workouts and in class activities. Benefits i got from being apart of this were leadership skills and teamwork skills and various ways on how to assist a patient in need of patient assessment. Ways i can make myself feel a part of a group in city tech is by being useful, engaged in the topics, and build good connections with people.

Having teamwork skills is good because you will have groups projects.

Joining a club at school is a great opportunity and a better time to have fun with others students. I remember my first time I joined a group was when I was in 10th grade. At first, I was excited. I made friends, we worked together and had so much fun. I felt very comfortable and it is a moment I will never forget. Moreover, the benefits that I gained were: opportunities to learn from others, the chance to develop leadership skills by sharing ideas and collaborating with diverse perspectives and better teamwork abilities. In my opinion, the best way like part of group is the participation and communication to know each other.

Those skills will be beneficial in college, Iā€™m glad you learned them.

When I was a junior in high school, I joined my school’s wrestling team, and I was nervous because I was a very antisocial person who disliked interacting with others, and it caused me to miss practice on occasion because my anxiety got the best of me, but I got it under control and started going every day, and I got good at wrestling and enjoy being around my teammates.

    • Julmide Mentor

Thatā€™s great lugo. I hope you have no problems joining club in college.

When I first joined track I was nervous because I did not know what to expect and I didn’t know anyone. I made new friends and also felt comfortable hanging out with my teammates and coach.

    • Julmide Mentor

I was also on the track team once I had a lot of fun and made a lot of friends.

Recently I have joined teaching at my church school and when I first joined I was nervous but this was something I really wanted to do. For the most part everyone was welcoming and excited to teach this year, I did have a bit of a bad interaction with someone but thankfully the other catechist had my back and defended me, so that really helped knowing that thereā€™s more good than bad, they made me feel safe and welcomed. This was a voluntary decision and I do not get paid to teach in sunday school, however I didnt join to benefit from anything materialistic, I joined to share my knowledge and help guide the children on their spiritual journey within our religion. so this truly was just to help those seeking God. I guess this would be another example that I connect more when iā€™m volunteering or helping etc and I can bring this into City Tech and my radiology Department.

I used to go to Sunday church, it used to be fun and engaging.
