Read the following quote by Dr. Pamela Brown, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Learning is a source of hope for a better future. It requires hard work and sacrifice which can be even more difficult in challenging times. Your time in college is also your opportunity to connect with others, lift your spirit, enrich your life, and develop the skills and knowledge to make a difference in your community.

Life experiences that have prepared me for college was high school workshops talking about preparation for college life. We had them once every week during senior year and it talked about how to manage your time, study habits etc. When I face a difficult situation, I try to make sure I’m calm and take time to reflect on the situation. Then I try to find solutions on how to solve the problem.I can create positive academic habits by motivating myself to do my work such as reminding myself of my goal and future. I can also set time aside for studying and focusing on school.
I would try to look at it from a different angle and push myself to try my best to get it done also try to stay positive if you stress soemthing too much you can’t get it done and if it comes too it I will seek help from someone I know to try and help me with the situation.
A life experience that has prepared me for college is working at Amazon. I feel like this has helped me be more opened to looking around and asking for help. Also, it has given me more skills on how to be professional. I have learned how to write professional emails how to advocate for myself and work with others.
Some difficult situations that I faced were Breaking down the problem into smaller, manageable parts and addressing each one systematically. Reaching out to teachers, mentors, or peers for advice and support.
I chose the second question, something I do to find a solution to difficult situations is asking for advice. Most of the important people in my life are older than me and have more experience on life, so whenever I am having difficulty making a decisions or anything, I go for them for guidance.
When I face difficulties, I just ask friends and other peers for an answer. Or just ask the professor for a straight answer but sometimes I just search online. So, all on my actions.
Completing elementary and high school has somewhat given me the basic knowledge to know what I’ll be learning in college. When I’m faced with a difficult situation, I like to write down questions so then I can search them on YouTube to learn from a video. I have created positive academic habits by always going to class and taking notes that will help me with the homework.
one life experience that I’ve had that has prepared me for college is workshops that I took in High School. They taught me how to read a syllabus and how to manage my time. It also helped me to be more open to new experiences. It also taught me how to ask for help if I ever need it.
A time I have been faced with a difficult situation is when I used to play around and never go to class until my guidance councilor told me I wasn’t going to be able to graduate because I didn’t have enough credits and my grade was shown as 11 grade so a strategy that I used to find a solution was putting my effort on going to class and doing night school in order to graduate.
I will create positive academic habits for myself by being on top of my work and by looking through the syllabus, I could be going over materials that are due later on. By studying materials the day of and creating a study schedule so I don’t cram the day of an important test.
I will create a positive academic habit for myself by going to the library after getting an assignment. The library motivates me to get work done especially if i’m listening to music. I’ve been doing it so far, and it’s helped me finish all of my work and prepare for my tests. Anywhere that is similar to the library will do as well.
A life experience that has prepared me for college was high school because during senior year they talked to me about what I could expect coming in to college. They talked to me about how I can manage my time with studying, doing assignment etc.Jobs also helped me prepared for college because they helped open up more and also taught me skill I could use later on.
A life experience that has prepared me foe college was high school because I had to always be on time. To create positive academic habits for myself I will try to sleep early, do my assignments on times and not give up when things gets hard.
I would try to look at it from a different angle and push myself to try my best to get it done also try to stay positive if you stress soemthing too much you can’t get it done and if it comes too it I will seek help from someone I know to try and help me with the situation.
I feel that my entire senior year prepared me for college because it was stressful but I managed to go through it. Everything with having to pick my major and what I want to do with life, catching up my counselor with what I’m choosing, being on top of my fafsa application going through, managing my classes, having to go to tutoring etc. I feel like all that is what I’m really doing right now too but now it’s more chill because if anything I can drop out (which I won’t) but life is never going to be easy and I don’t want myself to be working a 9-5 job my entire life.
When having a situation regrading personal experiences or even school, I have always communicated my feelings and/or reasoning. I have found that it’s better than assuming and getting something wrong. I like to always be positive with every situation because everything happens for a reason.
I have been writing my days down and truly reflecting on what I prioritize in my day. I make sure that I’m eating and sleeping enough because I know I can’t be a good student if I don’t. I try my best to stay on top of my schoolwork and I make sure I have at least 2 hours a week to study for each class.
When I’m faced with difficulties, I usually take a deep breaths to calm me down.I would spend a few minutes trying to come up with solutions. if I’m not able to, I’ll take a good 10 mins to clear my head before I start trying again. If I can’t find a solution, I’ll ask for help
