The title of the story is called “A father, a Son, a Disease and a Camera”. Just by looking at the title, it tells me that the photographs are about a father, his son, and one of them has a disease. One of them is taking pictures to capture the story of the other person, briefly showing what they’re going through.
In this particular story of photographs, there are multiple kind of photos. Ranging from long shots, close ups, people, and people gathered in places. The photographs followed in a order that tells a story from what happened first, to what happened last. The way the photographs are ordered gives an understanding to the viewer of what the person in the picture is going through in life. From being with family, going to the beach, hanging out with friends and then ending up in his death bed. If the order of the photos were different, there would be confusion, but the viewer would still get the gist of it, that this person has passed.
Formal characteristics shown throughout the photographers pictures. Characteristics such as perspective, shadows, focus and contrast are examples. These characteristics give life to the photographers picture, making the main focus stand out.
This picture shows the characteristics of figure to ground by placing the light blue chairs in a line with one black chair. The one black chair stand out in the middle, your eyes are automatically drawn too it.
Both photos are examples of how a photographer can direct the viewer’s attention to what he or she thinks is important.
