I took the shot from a window with defuse lighting. I have a person take most of my self-portrait. I mostly took them near the window to get a high contrast and the last two were taken forth away from the window to reduce the contrast. I like how the last two has a different mood.

My name is Brianna Edwards. I'm in my first sophomore year in City Tech. I'm not sure on what I want to do yet but I'm thinking of being an illustrator. I've drawn on paper and digital media. I also want to tell my own story through drawings. I still feel like I have many things to learn so I'm looking forward to see how far I can go.
I'm also interested in animation. I have never properly animated before but I've grown up on them and I can't just let them go. So I still watch them now.
Wide Angle Distortion No Wide Angle Distortion
Distortion is when your too close to the camera and use of a wide angle lens. I used the front camera of an ipad and put the it as close as I can towards my face. I found some difficulty aligning the shot because the camera was like holding a mirror. I avoided this effect by taking a picture at arms length. I can use this in a self portrait photo. I found a clue that the no wide angle distortion shot, you can see your ears more compared to the first picture.
I created the distortion in the first photo by having someone and on a ladder. I would use this in a security camera prospective. The second picture was achieve by putting my hand close to the camera.
Backlight no fill Backlight fill Sidelight no fill sidelight fill
I too these shots by using a window. It’s a cloudy day so there is mostly defused light. I used copy paper as a way to get reflective light. I think I had better results in the backlight because it was easier to still see the faintest shadow compared to the light of the main light scarce.
Photographed on paper towel Photographed on kitchen towel
In the first photo the mood the photo is worthless. Usually paper towel is seen as disposable and trash so this kind of translate that idea to the food itself. The second photo is different however because the mood feels more clean and more at home.
Direct Front Light Direct side light Direct backlight Directional diffused front light Directional diffused side light Directional diffused backlight
The direct lighting has the direct ray of the sun hitting the sit the light is coming from. It creates contrast and a mood. Directional diffused light however doesn’t have this effect. The light is spread out eventually in the shade. The only way to tell the difference is direction the highlights are coming from. Front light is mostly light from the front of the subject. This gives a warm feeling. Side light has a high contrast between light and dark. And back light has only a little amount of light on the subject.
