Alex Veras- Shoot 1 Critique- Natasha Sarmiento

Overall, me and my other group members came to think that Natasha’s photos were really really good. Her use of shadows was great throughout her entire gallery, and my group particularly liked the last photo in this group of 4 seeing as how it seems like sun is peaking out. As for critique, we advised Natasha to catch some more photos with people in motion besides the jogger in the street, and work with shutter speeds and different exposures in her second batch of pictures.

Alex Veras: Lab: Week 6- Motion Blur

For this lab, I used my dog seeing as how capturing him moving was straightforward, especially since I was able to catch him moving faster than I would have been able to. I set the shutter speed of the app to 2, got him to run, snapped the picture right before he was about to jump up, and although the picture is really blurry, you can still get an idea for what’s happening.

Alex Veras- Lab: Week 6- Exploring Shutter Speed

As I progressed throughout this lab exercise, I used 1/10,000 as my initial shutter speed and then made my way down by halves. As I went down the line and the fraction increased, I noticed that the quality of the pictures generally started to get better. While this was happening though, it seemed like the camera began to pick up the light towards the back differently. To me, it seemed like my camera was blurring out other elements in the back to take more concentrated pictures of the sneakers in the center of it all. As for the ISO, I would leave it to whatever value the camera shifted it to as I decreased the shutter speed.

Alex Veras- Lab: Week 5- Black and White

For this Lab, what I decided to use was one of the drawers in my dresser; particularly the one where I put my dress socks, bow ties, and video game cases. You can tell in the original picture that even though there’s a good amounts of greys, blues, and reds, there are still pops here and there that overall make it very colorful. For the first black and white shot I decided to use the regular mono setting on my phone’s gallery, and that in turn just made it black and white directly. For the second picture I went into Lightroom and raised the luminance on the brighter colors like hot pink, light blue and yellow. For the third black and white photo I also used Lightroom, but for this one, I opted for also raising the temperature and tone meter alongside bringing down he luminance on other colors like orange and dark purple.
