Between the programs Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, the best choice for creating a logo that can be used in various applications would be Adobe Illustrator. We have to understand that Adobe Photoshop is a program optimally suited for raster graphics, which will not be beneficial in resizing the client’s logo. Unfortunately, when trying to enlarge an image on Photoshop, the image will become pixilated and blurry. The individual pixels will be more apparent or get larger. You will then begin to see ragged edges instead of the smooth lines the image had before. Photoshop is a drawing tool for editing. It modifies specific pixels of an image, rather than scaling logos. Its strengths are more for web design logos, online graphics, brochures, posters, postcards, and flyers, but not designs that can be expanded in a diverse range of displays and objects. It is also important to note that Photoshop does not allow you to make a vector file, you would need to manually remake the logo each time in a new size depending how big or small you want it. Converting raster files into vector files is very difficult. Thus, it would be easier to originally create a logo in a vector program. Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics program perfect for scaling images or artwork indefinitely. Adobe Illustrator is way more versatile than Adobe Photoshop. In this application, the output file can be resized to any degree, without losing any sharpness or quality. This is absolutely essential for the client if they wanted to put their logos in small areas like business cards or large areas like billboard signs. The quality of the logo will never be at expense when changing its size on Illustrator. The client will never have to worry about the resolution deteriorating since the lines and shapes of the logo will always be smooth and clean.
About This Course
Basic concepts related to the two fundamental digital graphic forms (raster and vector graphics) and learning best uses and practices for each. This course covers basic digital imaging terminology and techniques including size, resolution, color space, file elements, measurements, file formats, and scanning software and hardware. Class projects require students to explore the meaning of communication through design and how it correlates with client satisfaction and target audience. Students become proficient with both raster and vector applications, such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
