Lab

  • 1. Pick a classic or well-known logo. Grab some scrap paper or your sketchbook and redraw it. Not riff on it – what can you change, and how much can you change, while still retaining the brand familiarity?
  • Present to your classmates: explain why you picked the logo you chose; what do you like about it, what do you feel is successful about it
  • Explain your design choices in changing and updating the logo
  • 2. Make a personal collage made up of elements that are important in your lives. You can use photoshop, pinterest, etc. to compile your images/text
  • You will begin this assignment by making and analyzing your personal collage with a classmate. Pick out a few key elements that are important and begin to simplify them with pen/pencil and paper.

Homework Due Next Class:

  • Use your “personal mood board” to sketch at least 15 different logo ideas.
  • Avoid digital sketching – only pen or pencil on paper. For iterative design to work you need to work fast and keep a record of your ideation.
