1)The value of creating layers in illustrator is that the markup we do can be a very organized workflow. Layers give you a chance to overlap with other layers and objects and everything is organized. It’s important to have many layers and organize them so that everything is easy to find when editing your work or making any adjustments.

2)If the shape you want to create is closed, when we use the Pen Tool, make sure to click back to the first anchor point you made to close the shape. We then use the mouse to close the shape. A closed shape can be painted and filled with color, whereas an open shape is a path that can only be painted with color.

    1. The creation of layers in illustrator is very useful and facilitates the work in many ways. Having layers that separate each section of the work will allow you to avoid damaging parts of the work that are already finished, it also allows you to be able to correct and rearrange sections of the work without having to modify the entire work. By having layers for each part, it will help you to be able to individually correct something that has an error or delete it in case it is not necessary, and it also allows you to hide parts of the work that might get in the way while you work on other layers.
    2. To make sure that a shape is closed, you always have to click on the first anchor point that was made, which will guarantee that the shape has had closure and you can fill it with color or modify it if necessary. To know that you are closing the shape when you click on the anchor point with which it started, a very small circle will appear.

    Question 01 –

Layers are an extremely useful component of any form of digital artwork. One of the benefits of using layers is separating different parts of your work. For instance, when thinking back to front you can stack your layers and build on the layer beneath without manipulating the original work you have done.

    Question 02 –

When creating shapes with the pen tool you can check to see if the shape will close if the little circle icon comes next to the pen. This is important if you want to fill that shape with a color later.

The value of creating layers in illustrator is to have everything you have made to your work labeled. It allows for a very organized workflow. Instead of having everything unlabelled or to ers even having everything done to a single layer. Layers give you the opportunity to overlap other layers and objects with everything being organized. It’s important to have many layers and have them organized so when editing your work or making any adjustments everything is easy to find. This is key when working professionally so when an adjustment is requested from you. You can easily go to your layers and find that named layer to make corrections.

To make sure the shapes that are being created are closed both points have to touch from start to end so the shape can be closed. For example when using the pen tool there is an “o” that appears indicating that the shape needs to be closed.

Layers in illustrator allow for one’s workflow to be organized. Being able to name one’s layers is one essential function that allows for quick and easy access to a layer. Layers also make it possible to overlap text, objects, and images. Layers will also contain information about any adjustments made to the object. It also allows the user to hide, move, or lock a layer or multiple layers so that they do not interfere with the editing process of another.

In order to assure that the shapes you are creating are closed you must join or complete paths that are created with the pen tool, in other words, assure that you circle back to the very first anchor point created. You can check to see if the shapes are closed by hovering over the object’s first anchor point and noting whether or not the pen tool displays an o, expressing that the shape is closed.

Hey Liz, Very informative way to describe the importance of layers.

Question 1: Creating layers is one of the best features on Illustrator. It allows you to overlap and layer different objects on top of each other and keep organization to your workflow. It also optimizes your time for when you’re searching for certain creative assets or objects and naming your layers also helps with organization. Also the ability to lock layers and work on others increases the productivity of a project.

Question 2: To make sure the shapes you are creating are closed, when using the pen tool make sure to click back on the first anchor point you made to close the shape. When you hover over the first anchor point, there is an “o” shape that appears next to the pen tool signifying that to close the shape. A closed shape can be both stroked and filled with color whereas an open shape is a path can only be stroked with color.

    • David Flores

Hi Adrika, I find this very useful all the time the fill and stroke indicating if there is an open shape or a closed shape.

    • Xiangyong zeng

Hi Adrika, I agree with you that you explained it in detail.
