    1.    What did you think of the piece? Be honest! Did you find any parts interesting? Did you learn something new?

I thought this piece showed into the author’s personal journey as a former college athlete and his experiences made it interesting to read.

    2.    Who do you think is the intended audience of the piece? Who is meant to read this text?

The intended audience of this piece are individuals interested in sports, college athletics,  or college athletes concerned about fairness and justice in sports.

    3.    How do you know that this is an example of a feature article? Be specific!

This is an example of a feature article because it goes into a specific topic and provides indepth analysis by incorporating personal experiences and mixing it with his research.

    4.    What did you notice about how the author wrote this piece? Maybe the tone (formal, informal, humorous, casual, etc), or the use of ethos (statistics and facts) or the use of pathos (emotion) or the use of logos (logic)?

The author uses a persuasive tone throughout the piece. He used pathos by using emotions such as empathy. also, the use of ethos is seen through the author’s credibility as a former college athlete and current senator,

    5.    What stands out to you– what do you like/ dislike about this writer’s style? What are you confused by? What do you want to know more about? Pay special attention to how this author uses research (outside facts, statistics, history, news, interviews) etc in their writing.

The author’s style is was very passionate , I like how he used his research to support his arguments, showing the true side of the problems that college athletics deal with.

I enjoyed reading the author’s history with football but then I kind of found everything else boring since it wasn’t really a topic I prefer.

I think this piece is mainly directed towards policymakers and athletes (college more specifically) since he shared his points in an empathetic way

Because it blends his personal story with a persuasive argument with facts and he shared this information while staying relatable

The author’s use of ethos was impressive since it made me feel like he knew what she was talking about and ensured me he spoke with the right people

I admire his ability to effectively communicate complex issues. But, I am still a bit curious about the provisions of the proposed college athletes bill of rights.
