Time Capsule

Dear Future Self,

Hey Ari!, Congrats on surviving so many months as a college student. How’s adult life treating you. Rough, more intense, stressful ??? I can only imagine. Don’t worry you got this though! I believe in you! And remember you still got a long way ahead of you in order to become a college graduate and wear that cute medical uniform you are aiming for. Keep working hard, I see you. Just know that if no one else is noticing you achieve either you’re long or short term goals, I am! I mean you, no us! Girl you get it. WE GET IT. And no you are not reading this by accident. This is a confirmation. YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE IT, No matter what it looks like right now. Don’t give up. Stay positive, and never forget who you’re doing it all for. You doing this for YOURSELF and your MOM! Nothing or no one should get in the way of you getting what you want in life. Remember, you like nice and expensive things right!?, so you gotta work hard for it. I obviously don’t know what has changed so far but just keep being the best version of you that you can possibly be! But stay in school, be on time to class and do your schoolwork. Hopefully you’re reading this shaking your head up and down (like in a yes, agreeing way), instead of left and right (in a disagreeing way). Hopefully you still have this determine mindset. Or better yet, that it is a more improved one with better goals and aspirations for yourself in life. Hope this letter brings happiness and faith into your day and that this message plays back in your mind whenever you come across a new challenge. No matter the obstacle in your life, keep moving forward! Everything will be okay. Good luck!

Love, (yourself) ARI ♥

“A Talk to Teachers” by James Baldwin

According to the speech “Talk to Teachers” delivered in 1963 by James Baldwin, civil inequality and racial discrimination weigh heavily on American society, particularly African Americans. The author considers historical circumstances, reasons, and present problems that have led to racism then and now. James Baldwin blames the government that creates racial discrimination conditions and proposes solutions for this old and new society’s wound. He appeals to young black students to break up the usual stereotypes about themselves as something less worthy and dignified, and aspire to pursue higher life goals. This is what he means when he writes, “the world is larger, and it belongs to you.” In other words, do not be lazy to educate yourself about your history and world history. Do your best to improve your lives and prove to others and, first of all, to yourself, that you are not what the majority think you are. One of the subjects I wish I had been taught in school was ethics. All of us should learn how to behave in society. This subset of philosophy teaches about morals, social standards, civilized behavior, and manners that are very important for us. I think that if we do not teach good manners such as courteous communication, setting up the table, wearing appropriate clothes, etc. society will break down. One of the most important ethical subjects is virtues. Unfortunately, we are very inadequate in terms of the main virtues such as justice, wisdom, courage, self-control, love of neighbor, truthfulness, and sincerity, fidelity and devotion, kindness and compassion, trust and faith, modesty and humility, the value of treating others fairly. In addition to being virtuous, a human being must understand and know other ethical values related to life, consciousness, activity, suffering, freedom of will, the purpose of human behavior. I think that if we do not include the virtues and values in our life, we will deteriorate into something animalistic. Knowledge of these values and virtues will help us to live better and more productive lives.

Assignment 1

My opinion about online learning.

To successfully participate in the online program, the student must be well organized, motivated, and have good time management skills to keep up with the course. This type of education has many pros and cons. The advantages are that you do not have binding to the place. You can study in any mode convenient for you, at any time convenient for you. The teacher or student can learn anywhere: while on vacation, in the countryside, or even on public transport. You learn only what your teacher assigns you to study without additional unnecessary subjects.

There are many disadvantages to this mode of learning:

  • the lack of live communication with the teacher and classmates
  • lack of usual information carriers (paper, textbook, notebooks, etc.)
  • isolation from the outside world

As not American and a person who does not have an education in the country, online learning is not the best way. One important thing is that I can not communicate with my teacher in real life. I know that I can communicate with her by email or phone, but I do not feel comfortable bothering her.

In today’s world, we do not know what the future holds for us. Maybe soon, we will be learning and communicating in some other ways using new means. We always need to be ready and flexible for life challenges.
