Final Reflection, Draft

At the beginning of the semester, I had very low English reading and writing skills, but I have learned a great deal since then as time went on. Going step by step under my teacher’s guidance, I learned the whole process of academic research. Now I understand the different genres. I learned how to read, summarize material, and get the main points. These are some of the steps that are important in doing research. This semester has helped me think more in English and less in my native language when communicating my thoughts and ideas orally or putting them into writing. In addition to my English composition one class, I also take an introduction to psychology class. The skills that I got in English class became invaluable in my psychology class. During my homework assignments in psychology, I had to read many articles, and I could now understand the topic much better and to answer all the questions in the assignments more efficiently. I plan to continue my college education, and I have reason to believe that all that knowledge that I got during this semester in our class will help me in my future courses. I do not consider myself a prolific English writer by any stretch of the imagination. Still, I would like to say that this semester has added a lot to the level of my English reading and writing comprehension skills.

Discussion Forum ( Unit 3, 250 words)

When I started my research work about the afterlife topic, at the end of unit 2, I thought my audience would be at fist my classmates and every human being. I considered such a big audience since life and death concerns everybody, and I thought it would appeal to everyone. I felt an introduction to major religions and their teaching of the afterlife would be perfect for my vast audience.
So far, so good, until in Unit 3, I used a different genre that addressed the afterlife question from a different perspective. This material provided more scientific and medical data. When I read the Ben Brumfield CNN article “Afterlife feels even more real than real researchers say,” it was an eyeopener for me. I never before heard of the Near-Death Experience, even more interesting what happens to the human brain during this state, and what stories people who had this tell. This material shed a lot of light on me and helped me answer many questions that I had before about the afterlife.
Therefore I decided to narrow my research down and now aim more at a more specific audience. Since my genre is more rational, scientific, and medical, it should appeal more to the category of people who are possibly non-believers, agnostics, or atheists. This task, I already try to fulfill in unit 3. The afterlife question’s research project was a tremendous academic writing experience that helped me think differently now of death. I hope this will help people at death differently.

Time Capsule

According to my Time Capsule from week two, I set up many high standards for myself. I pledged to pursue knowledge and wisdom to take advantage of the school time and interact with my teachers and students to learn new things. I can honestly say in my heart that I have accomplished these things.
New academic experience in the new country speaking and thinking in a new language working mostly in online mode was extremely difficult.
Nevertheless, this was worth undertaking. The semester is almost around the corner, and I already feel a great sense of accomplishment in my heart and mind. In the beginning, I said that I would look back with ease and smile; now, I live to see this.
