In the article “How to Read Like a Writer” by Mike Bunn, Mike Bunn really emphasizes the connection between reading and writing and how one can really improve them self in that area by learning from different authors. In his article, when Mike Bunn wrote “You are already an author”, he means that you don’t need to write a book to be defined as a author. Your life itself counts as the book and your development as a person and how you treat others is the story, it holds the same meaning. Me personally I am not much of a writer, however the life that I have lived so far is my story. In my everyday life, depending on the situation, I switch up the way of how I communicate with others. For example, when I’m with my friends I am much more relax and calm and when I converse with them. I implement phrases such as what’s good, how you been bro, wassup, how’s life been, and etc. However when I’m at work I have to converse in a much more formal matter, I can’t act the same way as how I act when I’m with my friends.  The words that I speak out when I’m at work are hello, good morning/evening/night, have a good day, thank you, you’re welcome, and etc. Furthermore, by performing this consistently every week, this improves my ability to communicate with more diverse people and this will help me later down the road when I meet new people. The expertise that I possess right now will help me with my college reading and writing career because by understanding different methods of speaking, I can translate that to my writing and that will help bring more attention and readers in. In Bunn’s article, the claim was stated clearly and was supported by using different people’s perspectives, he connected it to his life to make it more relatable to readers, and meaningful questions for the readers to ask themselves as they read the passage. Observing how Mike Bunn constructed his article by using these methods makes me want to implement those methods as well in my own writings for the future.
