Review introductory course syllabi. What does this information tell you about what you should expect this semester?
Read and comment on another student’s post. Are you taking any of these courses in the Fall? What other courses are you taking? Is anyone else in the same classes you are?
The syllabus document or guide with information about the class, and what will be expected of you over the course, general information, like what you will learn, rules and regulations, and the schedule of your assignments. In other words, the syllabus gives you important information that you must know about your course, and that you should expect from that course.
It seems like we have the same point of view.
It seems we all understood the syllabus pretty well.
I like how you said guide. It definitely is a guide, it shows you the overall expectation of how the class will be conducted. You can take advantage and start learning new material ahead of time.
I have learned about the syllabus. A syllabus lets the student know what the course is about and what they are expected to do over the semester. All the information is in the syllabus. Generally, it includes course policies, rules, regulations, required textbooks, materials, a schedule of assignments like due dates, contact information, and office hours. I expect to receive help when I don’t understand something, asking questions, attend class regularly and on time, set a study schedule, join extracurricular activities, and most importantly take care of myself. I’m taking English, Biology, Sociology, and Music this semester. I have three classes with one of my friends.
College is so much less stressful when you have friends in your class. I feel like it boosts you overall confidence. Anyways this Thursday Feb 9th is Club day since you mentioned about extracurricular activities. Come check it out in the Namm Cafeteria (1st Floor)
The syllabus give you information about your class, what you’ll learn the semester, your professor name and contact infor as well as the expectations set up for the class(how your grades are divided between HW and test).
I won’t be taking any of the class mentioned. I have accounting class, Business law and Math. And besides me I don’t see any of the students in Eng in the other classes.
Interesting, we have the exact perspectives view.
yes yes we read and understood the purpose of the syllabus pretty well.
Good luck in class. Its always nice having friends in class

Grades! Such an important aspect. The syllabus really breaks it down of what part of the class equals what. Imagine getting all perfect exam scores and low participation points but finding out participation is worth more than exams. It really changes the playing field. I love how you pointed this out.
The course syllabus is said to be the most important document for your couse. Almost all information regarding the course you are taking can be found there. The class planning, assignment, projects (if any), exams and agendas can be found on it. The professor’s office hours, FAQs, contact and various other necessary info can usually be found there as well. Reading the syllabus is probably the best way to know what you are in for. My English professor last semester gave us a small presentation about syllabi speaking about its various uses. She also put in memes and jokes about people always asking questions about things that are in the syllabus.
I am not in any of the classes mentioned here and will probably not be taking them either as they are not part of my major curriculum. I am in MATH 1375, CST 1204, CST 1201, ENG 1121 & 1101. Feel free to message me or get in touch with me as I am trying to learn more about NY.
It was really interesting to read about your explanation about syllabus, you explained it perfectly.
Thanks G
You had a very good detailed explanation of the syllabus. All your points are correct. The memes, your English professor pointed out is very accurate. Professors can become annoyed when someone asks them a question that can be answered by reading the syllabus. But don’t hesitate to ask them the same question, if your syllabus cannot.
A syllabus is a document that has all the information about the course that we are taking. It includes professors contact info, class rules, what topics will be covered, assignments and their due dates, tests, exams and etc.
I am not taking any classes that are mentioned above. The classes that I’m taking this semester are English, Sociology, Introduction to Fashion and Marketing.
Definitely! The contact info is probably one of the more important pieces of information to have for the class. It enables you to have a strong communication with the professor.
The syllabus gives you the information you need for the class. It tells you What you will be doing during the semester. it tells you about the lesson or the lecture the teacher is supposed to teach their students. it tells you what the teacher is expecting you to do in their class . The syllabus or syllabi is like a contract
You are definitely right. The syllabus gives you an insight of what is to be expected in each session of class.
The syllabus gives you all the information on what will be taught throughout the whole semester and also the link or the names of things you will be looking at. It also gives you the professor’s name and contact information if needed.
Yes, the syllabus definitely does tell us that.
A Syllabus is basically the outline of the course, it will help you to stay organized about the course material like course plan, exam dates. It contains professor contact and office hours, which is helpful though out the semester. It will help us on which part should we focus on. It has the grading outline which is the most important part.
Staying organized, grading criteria and outline of the class are all components of the syllabus.
Syllabus is the form of subjects in a course of study which aids in teaching and learning. It describes appropriate procedures and course policies. Thereby displaying title and semester courses, department offering the course, credit hours earned, meeting time and place. Also, It shows description of course content, required texts and other materials which helps students to become more effective learners.
I never heard anyone say it’s a form of learning. But I agree when you think about it, the professor reveals to you what subjects you need to learn to master the course.
