Gender, Dress & Society revealed the profound emotional and personal significance of clothing beyond mere fabric and design. Our course explored the true definition of dress as a complex communication system that extends far beyond physical covering, revealing how garments are deeply personal narratives of identity and experience. For my final project, I created an intimate book documenting clothing garments that marked pivotal moments in my life, transforming ordinary pieces of clothing into powerful memory repositories that told my personal story. Each garment became a chapter, exploring how specific clothing items captured memories, emotions, and transformative periods of personal growth. We delved into the sociological understanding of dress as a non-verbal communication, examining how clothing reflects individual and collective identities across different cultural contexts. This course taught me that clothing is not just something we wear but a dynamic language that speaks volumes about our journeys, social experiences, and inner selves.
