Reading Response 3 – V.L

Language is ‌communication that lets people create their own way of speech, whether it’s slang or ‌different languages. Language has gone through an evolution, which makes it a tad harder to explain what makes a language. In the realm of design, there’re different meanings to it, ranging from coding, pictograms, or even a set of rules that isn’t able to be defined with writing/talking. Visual Design has resulted from how language is shaped designed to what it is now. Visual design comes in when language can’t be of help. Pictographs, for example, don’t use language to convey a word or phrase, but a visual. That is important for communication around the world where it’s hard to understand every language. Because now someone can go to any city and expect to see public lavatory pictograms. An example of how design can be used in non-literal devices to convey meaning in advertising could be seen in everyday life, such as Logos. Another example could be semiotics where the word or symbol could visually represent something physical but have a different meaning, such as a drawing of a white dove, could mean peace.
