Reading Response 4 – JD

In the three readings, each author had his vision for what they wanted from art. An example is Filippo Tommaso Marinetti envisioned futurism that he created would help to push Italy into the future of art and make them forget the art of the past. This would cause new styles of art to be born and art of the past to be forgotten. He believed that this would happen as technology and the style of art grew, leaving older styles of design behind. Aleksandr Rodchenko, Varvara Stepanova, Aleksei Gan imagined a future where constructivism continued to evolve through the experimentation of those who used it. They believed that technology would help them to organize and create new ideas in the constructivism art style. Finally, El Lissitzky envisioned a future where text is used more than just as sentences but is used instead as an illustration piece to give it new meaning. He believed that technology would allow a continued change of how text and illustration were used in books and on covers.

The artists of this reading all had their visions of art and design and what it would be in the future. They were able to anticipate many of the things that art and design would grow into. They were able to do this due to their own experience in the field of art and design. Thought what they had experienced and learned as they were growing into artists. Thought their views of what they wanted from design and how they have seen technology and art grow as time has passed.

Though these artists have different visions of the future of art they do share many common views. One view that they share is that art is something that must continue to change and never remain the same. Another view they all share is that if we as artists become stagnant and don’t evolve then art itself will fall behind and will become pointless. Another view is that we as artists must work hard to make sure art continues to evolve and change. What they might disagree on is how art and design needed to change. This is due to them all having their vision of how art should change. Also, they may disagree on the parts of design and art that are the most important.

In the text, there are many important elements, ones that talk about the author’s views of design and some that talk about what they want from design There are even some points that have connected to the presents. For instance, in Filippo Tommaso Marinetti’s reading, he talks about futurism which is important because futurism helps to influence the way graphic design is done in the present. Aleksandr Rodchenko, Varvara Stepanova, Aleksei Gan bring up elements of experimentation and organization. This is relevant because both are important elements to how graphic design is done and how new designs are made. El Lissitzky brings up elements of using text as an illustration and images to create a point and represent something. This is relevant because that is how design is made today using text and images to symbolize a point and send a message to the viewer. Each text has its relevant element but they also have elements that are a problem. For Filippo, it is the idea of forgetting the past because it is the past that influences most designers. For Aleksandr Rodchenko, Varvara Stepanova, Aleksei Gan it is the idea of constructivist do not need to change how to create their art. This is because any style of art needs to change with the technology of it will be forgotten.

    Good work Javal,
Please spell and grammar check before posting.
For example: Thought what they had experienced and learned as they were growing into artists.

You have many good points. Can you elaborate on one or two? This means a less overall view of the articles, but a deeper examination of one or two points.
