I believe Walker Evans approach in to taking photos of the train passengers were to capture the misfortune and devastations everyone was going through during that time. When people take a train, they have a goal, a goal to reach a destination on a certain time and they also think about what they are going to do during that time. Walker Evans captured the reality of these people who cannot seem to think about anything else except that Great Depression Era. Furthermore, I don’t think this relates to people on the modern time because we have headphones and music. With headphones and music, the modern day people usually have a poker face and can easily block out their own thoughts. Back in that era it was easier to get lost in ones own thoughts without anyone to talk to or anything to distract them with.
