Evan’s approach to photography seems to be capture the undoctored glimpses of these people on the subway. From the interview it seems that Evan cared a lot for trying to not only capture the times in which he lived but also to understand them. This was probably why he chose to take pictures of these people in secret. The knowledge of being photographed might cause people to change their behaviors and Evan did not want that. His approach to creating photographs in my opinion is important. Contrasting how people act in the subway today from the past can be interesting. Also looking at people’s dispositions with the context of something like the depression can help us understand people in general.
