Homework Due This Class – Prepare for MidTerm Project (Due March 20th)

1. The quiz for today was postponed until next Wednesday.

2. Most of you started this project in class last week. If you did, good for you. That means you’re a bit ahead and can get some of your questions answered this week.

  • Find a Disney poster online that you will copy by tracing. BRING TO CLASS NEXT WEEK TO DISCUSS.
  • Try not to select a post that is too complicated. Your finished poster will conclude the type also.
  • Create an 11 x 17 Tabloid File.
  • Open the rulers (view > Rulers > Show Rulers) and drag a half-inch border all around the edges as a guide. Select three images from Google of a Disney Poster.
  • Prepare the file to draw, using the image as a template.
Using the template, start to draw shapes and then fill in colors in shaped areas. You will need to use layers to keep everything organized.
  • Save your file according to the following naming convention — 07_LastNameFirstInitial_midterm.ai (Illustrator file). Your file should still have the layers when you submit it, so I can see how you built the file.
  • Upload the finished file to Google Drive.
  • Review previous class topics for information that will help you with this project.

Each week we will review homework assignments from the previous class. Students will participate in reviewing material and offering suggestions for improvement for their cohort. This week we discuss the use of the type on a path.

Lab

  1. Lab assignments are done during class time. For our first assignment today, use your initials to create a logo that is woven using intertwine and pathfinder tool. Consider a background color if you like. A demonstration and example will be provided in class. Save this file with the following name: 06_LastnameFirstInitial_intertwinelogo.ai
  2. Tracing in Illustrator. Trace the document(s) I will provide during class.
  3. Set up for your poster.
Create an 11 x 17 Tabloid File. Open the rulers (view > Rulers > Show Rulers) and drag a half-inch border all around the edges as a guide. Select three images from Google of a Disney Poster. Prepare the file to draw, using the images as a template. Using the template, students will start to draw shapes and then fill in colors in shaped areas. Color modes, layers, blurring effects will be discussed. Use this file to begin your Disney poster. Bring the file to class next week so we can discuss it and you can continue to work on it.
