Learning Outcomes

  • Students will reinforce the typographic principles of the course through observation and critiques  of current
  • Challenges are paired with projects and course assignments thought the semester. They are structured to be completed in class within specific time and design guidelines.

Instructions

  • Using InDesign to create an 11×8.5 document
    Margins .5″ all around
  • Page One
    One text box with two columns
  • Set your name in these case configurations:
    Your Name
    your name
    YOUR NAME
    YN
    yn
  • Use Helvetica
  • 18 pt size
  • Duplicate the block of text three times using “copy” Command C, and “paste” Command V
  • Page Two
    One text box with your “First name Last name” on one line
  • copy to make five lines of text
  • 30 pt size Helvetica
  • Experiment with kerning very open at top to very tight on bottom
  • Create a new post named “Last Name_First_Name_ TC_K
  • Give it categories “Student Post Type Challenge” “Type Challenge – Kerning”
  • Save your work as jpg named: “Last Name_First_Name_ TC_K.jpg”. Insert jpg INTO your post.
  • Comment on at least one other students work.  Try to give your assessment in terms of what is working or not clear. “loving or “liking” or “being blown away” by work is OK but not helpful. What and why the work is successful and what is not working is key in refining and improving work
