Adult: Wire gauge refers to how thick a wire will be, where the smaller numbers represent thicker wires, and high numbers represent thin ones. This is important because a wires thickness affects its capabilities & properties. An example of this would be determining a certain gauge for a wire to be able to handle a certain load.
