4/8/24: Letter to Past Self or from Future Self

Write a letter to your past self or from your past or future self. Or just make a list of what would want to convey. This is your self, so take whatever approach suits you. You might consider, though, talking to your self kindly, as you would to a friend or younger sibling whose development you want to foster. Think about the rhetorical features of a personal letter when you write (but also consider the fact that the actual audience will be your professor and classmates, as you’ll be posting the letter on OpenLab) too.

Dear self, I have been so grateful and glad of how far we have come and how will are still continuing this journey called life. I always want you be happy and proud of any decision you made whiles you completed high school, because you did not give up on yourself. You know there is more to life and that is why you decided to enroll in college despite your setbacks whiles you were in high school. Life always have it way of throwing lemons for us in one way or the other for us to make lemonades, but I see that to be a stepping stone to a greater course in my life. So I always appreciate myself for being faced by such challenges, because there are lessons learnt from each thing we do. So moving, forward into the future I pledge to myself to be the best version of myself that I can ever become by making sure I set certain standards and morals that I will follow in order to get me to the place I will want to be in the future. Myself is also the best friend I have ever had and motivates me and steer me in the right direction I want to go in life. We will want to travel all over the world someday and make memories that will last a lifetime and also do all we can in our will to help the unfortunate.I always say to myself you can do it.

    Your Friend,

    Caleb

You finished school, this wasn’t a great time for you but some day you are going to figure out that wasn’t too bad and that you made really good friends at the end, people who always support you even from pretty far. Maybe by this time you are wondering what to do, and what career follow, but in the end you are going to choose really good, your maybe are not going to be happy for a while but what are you going to be learning is going to make you see the things in a complete different way, it is going to help to build yourself. You are going to lose many other friends, but we are not going to be scared anymore about be lonely and we actually are not going to be like that. You are going to take bad decisions, but everything is going to take us where I am now, so everything is worth it. Younger Valentina Don’t worry to much and enjoy your time.

Dear Melanie, it’s me, from the future.

I would like to tell you that throughout this journey you are going to go through many difficult things, whether in your family, friendship or school. Don’t worry too much about what may happen, just do it and above all, don’t procrastinate, it’s important because then you can learn more. Study a lot of English!!!, it will help you a lot in the future. Life is a bunch of surprises for which you must be very prepared. Do your homework, don’t worry about people who have nothing to do with your life, study hard and try to help your parents in any way you can. Remember that your future depends on you and not on other people. Just be happy with your self and do not overthink the things that people told you.

  5. Junior Chamblain

Hello, old Junior. I hope everything is going well for you. I just want to have a quick conversation with you. You know, we were friends since day one, but I want you to know that I want to move on without you. I want to leave you in the past and bring the new Junior with me, “future me”. Don’t be mad. I’ll be very happy if you consider my decision. You have the right to know why I’m making that tough decision, but I’ll explain it to you.

There was a certain time you were good for me. I was even though I was kind of lazy and didn’t really think about the future and life. I thought everything was going to stay the way it was, but I was wrong, bro. Do you remember when I told you I want to make my mom proud of me? Do you remember when I said I want to accomplish everything I dreamed of? Do you remember when I told you these things? But now my new friend, “future me”, and I will finish the route because we had some good and bad times together. I know some memories will be unforgettable.

Do you remember when I first came here, and you were always by my side? You reminded me why I came here, why I need to finish high school, why I always dreamed big, and why I should be proud of myself. To be honest, I’m very proud of you, best friend. One day, I’ll make you proud. I promise you, we will meet again and drink a cup of tea together, and I’ll look you in the eyes and tell you, “Bro, I made it.”

  6. Giselle

    Dear to my younger self,

I wanted to tell you that we have finally have made it to college, but of course it wasn’t easy as I thought because not everything in life is easy and it takes time to get there. Take your time and don’t stress whatever is that you’re going to face in life because it will be hard, but if you keep working hard and stay strong in life you can do anything in life. Don’t let others bring you down, ignore them and keep going in life, always be happy for your achievements and for getting this far. You may fail, but it’s ok because if you keep trying hard you’ll improve and pass. Your going to experience a lot of things it could be good times and bad times, but you will have to face it all and it’s ok because good things can happen too and it’ll help you grow no matter how hard things can get. Be happy, be grateful for your loved ones who stayed by your side, enjoy yourself in life, keep working hard in your education, and eat a lot of food.

    Letter to my past self.

I would like you to know that everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by good or bad luck. Moving, losing friends, etc, because without these little tests, without the ups and downs, life would be like a straight path and you wouldn’t learn anything. If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, it’s okay. Because you learned a lesson, If someone loves you, love them unconditionally, learn not to fear love. Make every day count. Cherish every moment and get everything you can out of it, so you can never live it again. Talk to people you’ve never talked to before and really listen. Keep your head up because you’ve got it all right. Tell yourself that you are a great person and believe in yourself, because if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you either. You can make your life what you want. Create your own life and then go out and live it. And the last thing I want to say is that bad times are temporary, you have to live one day at a time. Don’t waste your life hating, regretting or doubting. Take risks and do what makes you feel good that there is only one life.

  8. kenny

    Dear younger self

I want to tell you that we finally got into college, but it was not as easy as I imagined because everything in life is not that easy and it takes time to get there step by step. Because after all, I encountered a lot of bad things or factors that affected me in my life, but I still got through it. There are many good things that have happened to me, which I won’t go into. Get stressed out about anything you are going to face in life because it will be difficult but if you continue to work hard and stay strong in life you can do anything in life. Don’t waste your life on hatred, regret, or doubt. No matter what, life has various paths, various things, and various regrets. In short, don’t stand still, keep moving forward, come on.
