“What is your perspective on the relationship between activism and immigration policy? Should participation in protests affect someone’s immigration status? Why or why not?
Post a short answer below in the comment section.
In my opinion activism should not affect someone’s immigration status because protesting is our basic human right and immigration status should be based on legal factors, not political activities.
There should be no correlation between activism and immigration policy. Historically, the U.S. government has targeted activists based on political motives.Peaceful, lawful protests should not affect immigration status, as long as they don’t harm national security. When it comes to this specific activism, it did not. The U.S. Constitution protects the right to peaceful protest, and this right should extend to all individuals within the country, regardless of being a citizen or a legal permanent resident.
Your beliefs and practicing your freedom of speech by defending them shouldn’t affect your immigration status. Protesting is a form of defending your rights and standing up against what you consider injustice. It’s everyone’s legal right and to start affecting people’s immigration status because they are protesting is violating and censoring them.
Activism and immigration policy coincide, as it should be your legal right to protest and speak up for what you believe in according to “The First Amendment.” This in no way should affect one’s immigration status as far as “revoking” one’s legal documentation to remain in a country, or to feel safe and go about your daily life. Everyone has a difference in opinion and should be protected while voicing their stance on a matter that they think is affecting them or others in a negative way.
Activism and immigration policies good hand and hand with one another. Activism is advocating for immigration reform and injustices.
