This is a persuasive opinion piece because it’s a strong opinion with evidence and emotions. Even though the opinion of the article hasn’t really happened (that I know of) it’s pretty convincing knowing the intentions of wealthy people. The thesis of this piece is that wealthy people feel like they are the savers of those less than them and the only way to improve is by them. It does have enough support which it mentions bill gates’ helping farmers of Africa. ’’African farmers don’t need a white savior to show them how to farm; they need the Global North to stop plundering their resources”. This conveys that wealthy people just want people to rely on them and without them they would fail. When it states, “ In fact, the pursuit of that amount of wealth means that they were able to ignore — and in fact directly profit off of — the exploitation and violation of rights that is required to get there”, this really showed me a point of view I really didn’t realize which made it even more convincing. I didn’t know of the term NEOCOLONIALISM which is really important to know.

This article is more of an informative one based on the fact that it reveals various definitions and explains different points. The article also mentions concrete words like “Neocolonialism,” something many people might not know about. The thesis of this article is that rich people feel like they are the salvation for many people below the middle class or immigrants who are desperate for a job. The article gives a ton of information, showing the idea that wealthy people are nothing without people who are in need of a job, and they have no other option than to work for someone who is considered a “white savior.” There is a good sentence at the end of the article that reflects this idea.

“African farmers don’t need a white savior to show them how to farm; they need the Global North to stop plundering their resources.”

This is an informative opinion piece. The writer gives a background of colonialism and provides information about Bill Gates and what his foundation accomplishes. The thesis of this article is that one person shouldn’t have the power to alter political and economic systems and advertise themselves to be good people, they should be called out for neocolonialism. This article does offer enough support for its position and even informs readers of the consequences of this long-term colonialism. I was familiar with the concept of colonialism because it’s prominent in this world’s history, but I never heard of neo-colonialism before.

This piece gives good insight. In addition to giving background on colonialism, the writer goes over Bill Gates and what his foundation does. This article’s argument is that someone shouldn’t be able to change the economic and political systems while still projecting a positive image of themselves. It tells readers about the effects of this ongoing colonialism with enough proof to back its claims. Because colonialism has played a significant role in world history
