ENG 2700: Reflective Blog #1

I come from a multicultural home but the dominant style of communication can be seen as a direct descendent from my Palestinian and Arab Roots which both are deeply influenced by Islam and the practices of islam. and Unlike how the media portraits us we are friendly, open, warm and very welcoming people and this is very promenade in our ways of communication with others.

Traits that are considered to be good communication in my culture are to always be efficient and businesslike and always respect others even if you disagree with them. Another Trait that is Considered to be a great trait is to get to the point, my parents were never interested in the small details, and always interested in the big picture. Till this day my dad is a big fan of the big picture and is not mush into the small details. Another effective way of communication in the Middle East is to give us conclusions and only provide details if asked and talking in terms of results not methods. However the biggest trait of communication in my culture must be to listen to others when they talk and analyzing what they say so you can give an well thought answer, especially if someone is telling you a problem they need help with. It is surprising how many people believe communication is a one way street and is merely an opportunity to impose their views on an unsuspecting world.

Traits that are undesirable in communications in my culture is to be directing, coercive and even manipulative. However the biggest undesirable trait must be lack of honesty and not sharing how you really feel can lead to a lack of trust in the relationship. Us as arabs appreciate honesty in all situation and a trait of a good Muslim that he or she is always honest.

Program: Illustrator

My Layout:

  • LESS is MORE. In order to illustrate a moment in time, I only represented the most important elements to communicate the message.
  • My thoughtful, well-considered figure-ground relationship. When capturing a moment, the figure-ground relationship must be strong and stable.
  • Clearly orientate the viewer.

My Color

  • Color: My composition  uses the exact proportion of hues in your color inventory from my color reference. Creating a simple proportional inventory that clearly demonstrates visual hierarchy through color.
  • Dominant color, Sub-Dominant color, and the Accent color.

I hope you like it, I truly enjoyed Graphic Design Principles 1, i will miss truly … i cant wait to see what Graphic Design Principles 2 will have in-store for me.  Prof. Spevack  is a great teacher , and helped me grow and understand graphic design and showed me why i loved it and why i choose this Degree.

Thank you & Happy Holidays

Paired Color Interactions

Hi Class, this is my final composition work with Mei Dan Zhu, it was really fun to work with her and she is very easy going ………..  the Red section Repesents Mei love for music and life that i did for mei and the pink side is what mei did for me that represents me and my love for fashion and my dream to travel.

both our composition are made digitally using photoshop and illustrator.

Color Interactions

Value Color Iteration:0639interaction

The same yellow, violet, and gray were used in these examples, but they appear to change relative to how they are used together. This interaction between colors varies between how the colors are used, so it is important to look beyond Color Theory and color science if color is to be used successfully in art and design.

Simultaneous Contrast Research

RESEARCH

Our eyes give us a very subjective view of the world. This subjectivity leaves us susceptible to a variety of optical illusions. The fact that we are not very good at estimating the absolute brightness of a region, but have a strong ability to detect differences between neighboring regions causes simultaneous brightness contrast illusions. This type of illusion makes the perceived brightness of any region in a complex image vary depending on the brightness of the region’s immediate surroundings.

The illustration below shows how our perception of a colors in different Mediums 11-03-04-spiral article27-squares1 Simultaneous_Contrast_by_JustMarDesign SimultaneousContrastIllusionDetail
