According to a recent New York Times article titled “That Dinner Tab Has Soared. Here Are All the Reasons,” the prices of dining out have skyrocketed due to inflation. This article, in particular, reveals a shocking increase in ingredient prices. Inflation in New York City has caused the prices of essentially everything to increase; from basic ingredients like canola oil and flour to equipment/maintenance and utility bills. I have personally noticed the effects of inflation around my life when dining out for dinner with friends. My friends and I tend to dine at restaurants that we are familiar with and have noticed that the prices of the dishes that we would typically order have become slightly more expensive than they used to be. Personally, I believe that I would get very annoyed when I see something that I purchase regularly increase in price. An example of inflation’s impact is shown at a restaurant named “Good Food on Montford,” when beef and pork particularly skyrocketed in price. Mr. Moffett, the owner of the restaurant, states that the pressing demand for workers are to blame for the sudden rise in price for beef and pork. Mr. Moffett lays the blame on the shortage of truck drivers, people working in the factories, and the people working in the fields.

In this article it talks about this Restaurant and how the owner was raising the prices because due to the pandemic and all of his customers were shocked about the prices was high, this one customer Sarah Holshhouler she was complaining about how she got this dish or whatever and it wasn’t like a fully fully dish it wasn’t enough food it was like a small dish and when she got the bill she was surprised that her bill was high what she thought it will be. Mr Moffett intentions was never to rise his prices but he was forced to because of his soaring expenses so this made him to have to upgrade his prices. I’m my opinion I fell like it was a good idea to rise his prices after everything we been through like the pandemic and stuff it shouldn’t be a surprise to people. Also inflation makes it harder to get the same items for the same price.

After reading “That Dinner Tab Has Soared. Here Are All the Reasons,” my honest reaction was the opposite of shocked. Considering the inflation issues throughout America, eating out in general has become extremely expensive. Personally, going out to eat in New York City is inevitable. It’s always a nice treat, but it’s not something I do often for the exact reason that it’s costly. From the cost of paying staff to buying food for a restaurant, this article comprehensively breaks down these issues. Specifically, the cost of beef and pork, Mr. Moffer of  Good Food on Montford says, has skyrocketed. The reason is simply because of the truck driver shortage for the local companies they buy from. So the high prices aren’t because of issues with the product itself, but with its transportation. This tends to happen a lot in the restaurant industry because they heavily rely on local vendors to ship out fresh meats and produce daily.Â
