A 6 month baby is killed due to gang violence while her father was changing her diapers. What can we do about gang violence because it affects everyone and not only the people who are in the gang. Also, as Human Services workers, what can we do to minimize the risk of gangs and all the violence that occurs in between them? That is sad. The baby is innocent and she has a bright future ahead of her. Gang violence is never the answer. Maybe they have psychological and behavioral problems because of child neglect, poverty, and peer pleasure. If they received treatment and/or services this might not happen. Also, they should calm down and think the consequence of taking people lives. However, it depends on their thinking pattern.

    • Jenny I agree with you, and Mohammed unfortunately this is something which occurs to frequently. The counseling would have to start with the actual gang member. Sad to say the choices we make dictate the life we live, and his life choice directly affected hsi daughter. As a human serice professional, prevention for the family members would be essential, and for the present gang members tertiary treatment would be necessary. Jenny i also agree that it also depends greatly upon their cognative thought pattern, because those who has the criminal mind are at times unwilling to accept change.

  2. It’s always sad to hear about deaths due to gang violence. Ideally we want to prevent anything before it occurs. I think how we raise our children is important but not everyone has the chance to always be around their children and help guide them. I do think that parents need to help teach children right from wrong and help them find their passion in life. Rather than leaving them alone infront of the television, motivate them to join a club, sport or something that will benefit them in the long run. I think this could help in preventing gangs from increasing.

  3. All of you have valid points. I agree with all of you and gang violence should never be the answer to any issue. Furthermore, I agree with you Jenny in that if they had services provided to them these things could be prevented.
