Sula

This book was far more interesting than Passing I would say. Since the beginning of the novel, there are a number of conflicts in The Bottom, leading to deaths all throughout the ending. It is interesting to me how Shadrack is the first character to be introduced in the story, yet he is just a minor character while Sula ends up being one of the main characters but she’s not introduced till later on. Nel’s reaction to Sula’s death in the ending reminds me of the friendship between Irene and Clare. Both Nel and Irene cared deeply about their friends but their feelings were not fully exposed until they passed away.
