Project 1

Overall Assignment:

 

      • Themed 5 x 7 Illustrated Card Set
      • You will use your Sketchbook to help you identify themes for this project.
      • FINAL Art is required to be Black and White only.
      • Students may not include text unless hand lettered.

Part 3

 

Finalize your 2 Themed Cards using pen, brush and ink. Be sure to PRACTICE first. Remember YOU CAN EDIT AT EVERY STAGE OF AN ILLUSTRATION, so if you make an error or if you see you can improve a drawing, DO IT! When inking, work approximately 2x the size of your final art. Scan your inked work and finish the project in PS. Be sure to adjust levels and present your cards exactly as you want them printed.

FILES should be 5 x 7 landscape or portrait.

  • 300 DPI
  • Files are DUE in Project 1 Dropbox before next class.
  • Project GRADE will be based on file in Dropbox.
  • Have your inked work with you for critique.

Composition in Illustration

Share an illustration that makes great use of Composition.聽 Explain why:

  • Deconstruct the illustration:聽聽 Who created it and what process and media do you think they used?
  • What does Compositional Techniques does the illustrator use?
  • Why do you consider them effective?

Be sure to read eachother’s observations BEFORE posting your own.

Exercise 2

Composition Cut Outs (2 pages only)

  • In Sketchbooks, students will perform the following exercise:
  • In 8 equal size boxes (Please use a ruler), students will use Cut Black paper shapes, and glue on to white background to illustrate the compositional ideas discussed in this module ABSTRACTLY.
  • No drawing, personification or imagery is allowed.
  • Carefully label each image with the compositional idea being illustrated.
