The script (not scripture, although some of us think of typography as holy) is derived from a specimen cursive text from a 1601 document that recorded 70 years of deaths. The designer employed the script to (help) demand an accounting of 8,000 deaths in The Massacre of Srebrenicka. The script is not easy to read, but it is arresting. You are wise to call attention to the further explanations in sans serif (and some serifs).
