Process of Making Project #2

So far, the process is going well. I already decided on which compositions to use. All that’s left is to finish the 8th panel of the soundbook so I can implement the chosen compositions. I would have been done already if only Blick would cut their bristol pads properly instead of curving their cutting in a lackluster manner. Hopefully it will all work out well. :'( 🙂

Visit To MOMA (Making Music Modern: Sound for the Ear and Eye))

Original Visit: 10/07/2015

Visiting the Making Music Modern exhibit was very interesting. It was also a very peculiar experience for me as I did not originally understand how sounds can become an art form. After seeing instrument designs, music videos, and various posters, I came to a conclusion that the “art” portion of music comes from the both appearance and feel of the music. It can appear shocking or mellow and have cover art to match the preferred style. I could go on to explain the feeling in detail, but it is better to see it up close for an opinion.

Shape Composition Exercise Part 4

(The first three parts of this exercise are three different posts that only show images of the shape composition process.)

This exercise has shown me that shapes, positive space, and negative space are more complex than straightforward. It was a real tricky experience for me as I am more comfortable with creating art that has a meaningful direction rather than creating something aimlessly. It feels aimless because that is what positive and negative space will do to your sense of vision. The Gestalt psychology of these terms gives the impression that anything can be created from whatever is around. (At least that is how I have experienced it.) Despite the whole “out of my comfort zone” feel, it has taught me the perks of spontaneous creation through limitless shapes and spaces.

Inspirational Design Student Portfolio

Maisie Li’s student portfolio inspires me because it has an interesting character design style along with examples of human postures. Also, the design style looks very free and simplistic, which is something that catches my eye. Not only that, but since I am an aspiring character designer, this kind of work would easily inspire me to design more often than I already do.
