Shape Composition Exercise Part 4

(The first three parts of this exercise are three different posts that only show images of the shape composition process.)

This exercise has shown me that shapes, positive space, and negative space are more complex than straightforward. It was a real tricky experience for me as I am more comfortable with creating art that has a meaningful direction rather than creating something aimlessly. It feels aimless because that is what positive and negative space will do to your sense of vision. The Gestalt psychology of these terms gives the impression that anything can be created from whatever is around. (At least that is how I have experienced it.) Despite the whole “out of my comfort zone” feel, it has taught me the perks of spontaneous creation through limitless shapes and spaces.
