The topic that I chose to do for this assignment is Racial profiling/stereotypes, this is an interesting and controversial topic because this happens all over the country as well as all over the world, that because of someoneās skin color, background, and/or ethnicity, get discriminated and assaulted for that. We can look back at a critical event in US history that has caused a certain ethnic background and/or race to be targeted and discriminated against, for example, after 911 and having knowledge of certain terrorist groups existed, that mostly came from the middle east, people in the US started to racially profile and use stereotypes to label races from the middle east, calling them words such as āterroristā and blaming them for such a horrible event that they had nothing to do with. In addition to, the recent pandemic, can also count as a critical event that impacted race since COVID began in a part of China, created chaos, and continues to spread around the world, many people began discriminating, stereotyping, and profiling Asian people for āstartingā the virus, and not only did they target the Chinese that had nothing to do with it, but every Asian person around the globe, especially in the US, in which they would punch, beat up and even kill just because of it. In my research, I expect to find more information about where this racial profiling and stereotypes mostly start, as well as more statistics about the number of cases and violent cases around the world and the US. I would also want to learn about the races and communities that are most affected by these incidents, and what long-term effects can impact those groups of people. Adding to this, I could also research what the community that is being profiled or discriminated against feels, what are their opinions, and what they think about being targeted for that reason or for a certain reason of which they might not be aware. It is hard to find evidence against my topic because most of the information is backed up by cases in which a person of a certain background is stereotyped or profiled by some event that happened a while ago or has been recent. But If I do end up finding information that can contradict my topic, I will surely right about it and the reasons for it.
