Micro-Activity: Looking at Genres

-In podcast “21 Chump Street”, Justin( a high school student) tells the story, and musical was performed and narrated by people who work at Broadway, Lin-Manuel Miranda. In musical, we can actually hear more of female officer’s perspective, Naomi, which wasn’t really on podcast. 

-I think listening to podcast was more realistic because Justin was a real person that was actually involved in that situation, he talked about his feelings, emotions and we could actually imagine the story from his perspective, which I liked more. In musical,

-Listening, watching and reading gives a different perspective, because sometimes stories, articles can be biased. While reading article, it was just monotone and basic, just like any other news, and it felt like students should be punished and they are bad. When listening to podcast, I felt bad for Justin, because he trusted a girl cop, he bought her a prom ticket which is not cheap, and she set him up and now because of her, he can’t fulfill his dream about going to army, and he got 3 years of felony. In musical, at the beginning Naomi seemed like a nice person, who wants to do  the right thing for young people, and protect them from bad things. But then, there was a moment when he brought weed to school for her because she was literally pressuring him to get it for her. When he finally gave it to her, she manipulated and tricked him to take the money because if he won’t take it will make her feel bad.
